I know, I am using an old song to bring out my point, but made ya look. Anyways, I wanted to bring up the topic of BTC and their contracts with their team members. I have been hearing information about their contracts as of late (actually for a while), but more so lately. If you are a team member, have you really read through the whole contract? We know that they are two year contracts to start with (feels like my Verizon mobile contracts uuuugg!), what happens after the first year of the contract? Who does that money go to? Year one, BehindtheChair.com (the brand) is the primary contract holder, but in year two? Lets see, oh Mary (the owner)? So why not the brand? Well, I have my suspicions. One is that I think it is a fall back for Mary in case things around the BTC world start to fall apart. I have heard that a couple of team members have resigned, more on that later. If it does, these members are contractually obligated to still use Mary as their go between (aka their agent) with brands for another year, which means that she still gets paid. Team members, right now BTC and Mary are playing the role of agent trying to get brands to work with you (supposedly), and BTC (then Mary) gets a 20% commission from those brands before they pay you a dime. Say Matrix offers you $10k for a 6 month contract to help promote their brand. First off they have to go through BTC, whom gets their 20% ($2k), then set up a contract and they are on their way. So BTC gets their money and I have a contract, what is so bad with that? Well, who's to say that you would not have been noticed by Matrix before hand, or that even BTC had anything to do with it? If a brand reaches out to you personally, and likes your work, and what you do and wants to work with you, they (again) have to go through BTC first. For many brands, that is more than they are willing to do. Lets go back to that 10k contract. Say Matrix would like to work with you, and they have a budget for what they can pay you. They then find out that they need to pay a commission to BTC prior to signing you, so a budgeted contract of $10K is now costing $12K, so they offer you $8K instead. More info to come.

I was just asked a question in regards to the numbers I have shown all of you. Well more of a statement than a questions I guess, either way I have put some more numbers together. ⠀ The statement was as follows: "Wonder how many are up for multiples?" and this is in reference to the BTC Team members only. Well here they are..... A. 26 Team Members have One Nomination (31% of the Team Members) B. 24 Team Members have Two Nomination (29% of the Team Members) C. 14 Team Members have Three Nomination (17% of the Team Members) D. 9 Team Members have Four Nomination (11% of the Team Members) E. 4 Team Members have Five Nomination (5% of the Team Members) F. 4 Team Members have Six Nomination (5% of the Team Members) G. 1 Team Member has Seven Nomination (1% of the Team Members) H. 1 Team Member has Eight Nomination (1% of the Team Members) Percentages have been rounded up or down. So there you go. For the most part, what does that mean? It means that if you are a BTC Team Member and you were nominated for one category, you were 69% more likely to be nominated again, either in the same category or another. 57 of the 83 BTC Team member nominations have multiple nominations. As for how that compares to the rest of the field, that will take a little bit more to sort through, but I will try to get that as well. Keep in mind, there are many out there that have received multiple nominations that are not BTC Team members.
So, I literally created a spreadsheet and listed every single nominee and broke them down by category that they were nominated in. Then I went to every persons page, all 440 people that have been nominated. Again, Amazing work on their pages. The reason I am telling you all this, is that I do not want you to think I just picked some random numbers and I'm just spewing hate, that is not my goal. Ultimately, my goal is to illuminate everyone of the hypocrisy in creating a Team and then nominating almost half of that team into your own award show that is supposed to be about the industry and inclusion. Final Beak-down by the numbers: There are approximately 200 BTC Team members, 83 of those team members have been nominated. (approximately 42%). Out of the 440 people nominated for the Hot Shot Awards, again 83 are BTC Team Members for 19% of the total people nominated. That doesn't seem like much until you get to the total nominations. Out of the 733 total nominations for the Hot Shot Awards, 211 of those nominations went to BTC Team Members for 29% of the nominations. What this means is, that 83 people from the BTC Team hold 29% of the nominations. So What! It's there award ceremony, and they deserve to be up there as well. I agree, but I would like to go back to say this as I did in a prior post. Why not make a BTC Category that is for team members only. You don't see this in sports, where 30% of the players on one team are in the All-Star games. Sure some teams will have more than others. You don't see this in the Oscars or Golden Globes, cause Paramount, Warner Brothers, Disney do not run the show. In essence what I am trying to say, just because you run the show doesn't mean you have to own it too. It goes back to BTC saying they are about the industry, and the stylist, but are they really? I've seen some other posts as of late, which may hurt those people, because Mary at BTC holds power in the industry and she will have them Black Balled (cause we know that doesn't happen right). It seems to me that the people who are upset at the nominations, are not saying they do no deserve them, but it is a perception of favoritism that plagues these award
Congratulations to EVERYONE that has been nominated!! I truly do mean that, I have been to each and every one of your pages (some people I know, most I do not) and you are all Amazingly talented and rightfully deserve the recognition. I want you all to know this page is not to bash any of the talent that is out there, and got themselves nominated, you did amazing work, took amazing pictures. It is to talk about the way in which those behind BTC go about their business and how they are being perceived. ⠀ One thing I keep in mind as I write, is this: This is BTC's contest to judge as they like and to nominate who they like, but when you are one of the heavy hitters in the industry and talk a good game in regards to fairness and being all about the industry and protecting individual stylist, I know you are more about the money. <----This I will get into on a later post.
40% of the people nominated for this category are BTC Team Members

37% of the people nominated for this category are BTC Team Members
19% of the people nominated for this category are BTC Team Members
23% of the people nominated for this category are BTC Team Members
This is the only one of the 3 categories, that there are no BTC members nominated. As far as I know, there are no Barbers on the BTC Team, I could be wrong.
28% of the people nominated for this category are BTC Team Members
32% of the people nominated for this category are BTC Team Members

So, today is the 8th of August, and that means that the BTC awards are only 18 days away. That being said, there are still FOUR categories (when I originally wrote this yesterday, there were Eight) left to be shown for their nominations. I get it, lets build up suspense for the event, actually a very good marketing ploy, BUT at the expense of their viewership. What I mean by that is this. For those who are still on the edge of whether or not they should buy a ticket (more on that in a moment) may have to set up last second plans, or skip out completely because they do not know if they have been nominated or not AND getting something last second can tend to be very costly. That in itself is quite selfish of Mary and BTC. The reason why I think that is selfish, is because people have plans they need to make in order to partake in an event such as these. ⠀ 1. Let your clients know, that you will be away for that time period. 2. Hotel and Air accommodations, both of which tend to get more expensive as the event draws closer, so extra cost. ⠀ 3. Many have to make arrangements for their kids (BY the way, this event occurs during Back to  School for most of the warmer climates). ⠀ 4. Many need someone to take care of their pets, while away I am sure there are many more things, but I think I have made my point
ONLY 8% of the people nominated for this category are BTC Team Members. This was a nice change of pace for the nominations.
24% of the people nominated for this category are BTC Team Members.
This is the only one of the 3 categories, that there are no BTC members nominated. Again, another Barber category, and as far as I know, there are no Barbers on the BTC Team, I could be wrong.

For the past year, people have been asking and asking Where Kevin went!! Through out the year, BTC has not answered the questions, and at first acted as though Kevin was still around in the background, but now it is almost as though he has never existed. Why? Where has he gone? He has not even been active on his own page. And the #whereskevin #whereiskevin have been making it's way through Instagram.
I took the last couple of days off to just relax, surprisingly, Mary did a few of the nominations the last couple of days. Here, I thought she may be still doing the nominations the day before the event. 🤣😂 . I do have more to post on the nominations, but also in regards to BTC/Mary herself. Namely, her apparent belief that everyone copies her (the post I have will be titled "Imitation is not the most sincere form of flattery ". She thinks she's the queen bee and everyone else is supposed to do her bidding, we shall see.

Okay, fine...a lot of BTC Team Members are being nominated for awards....why shouldn't they, their work is amazing too and should be recognized!! ⠀ I wholeheartedly agree that they are awesome and should be recognized. My suggestion is very simple, create a separate set of awards for BTC Team members, this will eliminate any thoughts of favoritism in the nominations. ⠀ When you see that 40% of the people nominated are from your own company, it is not hard to see why people believe there is favoritism. Read the comments during Mary's live feed on Facebook during the nominations. More than once, I saw, "apparently to get nominated you need to be part of the BTC Team". ⠀ With that being said. I am not on a ship by myself, floating in a stream of self pity and envy, I am just stating what many are not or afraid to because they do not want to get Black Balled by BTC.

BTC One Shot Awards First off, as for the people that have been nominated, they are very well deserving of the nods. I will not say in any way that they do not deserve to be up there, all of the work that I have seen at since this has started, has been nothing short of amazing. BUT, there is a caveat to those who are nominated. Currently, with 7 out of 25 categories completed, BTC Team members are enjoying a 40% chance of being nominated for a category. Many in multiple categories, and some with more than one nomination in the same category. If you are a BTC Team member and you have been nominated once, you have a 62% chance of getting nominated again. Again, I am not saying that they are not worthy of the honor, but when you are a company that states they are all about an inclusive industry (see previous post about 1 million licensed stylist in the US alone), you cannot possibly tell me that, 40% of the stylist that are part of BTC Team are better than the rest of the country. How many entries were there for BTC? Close to 300,000 entries at last check. I haven't even discussed the percentage of BTC members in the individual categories, which will be addressed on each individual post. What concerns me, is not that many people have received nominations in multiple categories, more it is that several have received more than one in the same category. Why this bothers me? It is simply this. How can you honestly could not find another choice and had to choose another entry from the same person? Granted they are worthy of it, but why not simply take the best of the two and choose that one, and give another person an opportunity. Just remember, as it stands right now. BTC Team members, have a 40% chance of being nominated, and once nominated, a 62% chance of being nominated in another category. If you are one of the very few that did receive more than one nomination in the same category, you have a 66% chance of being a BTC Team member.
Who am I and Why will not I not tell anyone? Well, we know that behindthechair.com holds quite a bit of clout when it comes to the industry, and I would never want any of the friends that I have made in it to be subjected to any harassment or Black Balled by Mary and her team. Some may say that would never happen, but lets be honest, Mary has power in this industry and would, very much do something like that. I have read all of her company reviews online, and many do not paint her or the company in a very good light. Obviously, not all the reviews are bad, but even in the good ones, they state to tread carefully around her.
Hey everyone, today is August 1st, 2018. The BTC Awards are 25 days from today, AND there are still 18 categories yet to be completed! At this rate, it may be before or even during (or hell, after) the event that we see all of the category nominations completed. ⠀ Just for reference. No I do not work in the industry, or have any affiliations with it other than knowing a few stylist whom have made their complaints very clear. ⠀ Why do I bring this up? Well, quite simply, as a fan of the industry I have been hearing many complaints about how this nomination process has been utilized, from the timing of the nominations, to the Live Video feeds of the nominations, and to the people themselves that have been nominated. As I post, I will do my best to give my take on these issues. Whether my perspective is right or wrong, it is what I see, and what I have heard from stylist that (of course) will remain anonymous.
The reason I am stating this fact, will become very clear as I post. So, please bare with me, as I get all the information that I have out there.
