Does yoga have to be pretty or do you have to be flexible, or physically strong for it to be effective or to receive the benefits? Often times I hear people say, "I'm not flexible", or "I'm not in good shape". As an instructor, this frustrates me because the western view of yoga portrays skinny, young, extremely flexible white women. You don't see many photos of men, seniors, or people of color (although that's slowly changing). The truth is, you can gain all the benefits from a yoga practice without any of these "prerequisites". You also never need to learn how to do a headstand or a handstand if you don't want to. You're perfect exactly the way you are, right now. All you have to do is get out of your own way and show up!
