Last week we used up our weekly “night out” and ordered @foodpandasg.
I opted for a shit load of pau and dumplings which came to just SGD12 (£6ish). This was a variety of flavours including vegetable pau, red bean pau and custard pau (which had sweet corn pieces in 🤭🤮). Besides its ever-delicious signature Hamaguri (clams, pork bone and Japanese broth) soup ramen, Chef Yamamoto brings another spectacular ramen; this time with a Tonkotsu Smoke & Pepper soup.
As its name suggested, this was distinctively more punchy in taste while just as awesome in flavours. Be it for the rich Hamaguri clam or smokey Tonkotsu soup, both were so good we slurped up the soup from the bowls.

Bib Gourmand standard but I think it has been overhyped. Sorry.... I wished I ordered those regular portions of steak as I found this big tomahawk’s meat a bit too overdone on the outside due to its size. The tomahawk has lots of fatty parts and veins. Meat wise, taste like what I had at Aston. Tomahawk is supposedly good for 4 but because of those veins and fats, I didn’t really get lots of meat and wished they had given me more complimentary side dishes. Good service but not great. Wished my long table is not too brightly lit and it was way too exposed. I had high expectation but clearly the standard does not match to its final bill. 🐳 MerRyan was just satisfied.... .

Ah Tan’s Har Cheong Gai (Shrimp Paste Wings) 🍗
Ah Tan Wings is probably one of the most popular stalls at Yishun Park Hawker Centre, well received by both patrons and our local media. The Har Cheong Gai here first sets itself apart from its competition by being double fried. The first fry seals in the juices by forming a thin layer of crispy batter around the chicken while the second fry creates a much denser layer of equally flavourful crunch around the former. When you get to the meat closer to the bone, it’s obvious that the wings here have been given the appropriate amount of time needed for marination, which is something I can’t say for most zichar places. It also seems like the chicken used here is of better than average quality.
You can also help yourself to some chilli sauce, which appears to be made in-house. I say this because I found a few slices of garlic in the chilli that were far from uniform. The chilli is sour, spicy and reminds me of what Putien serves, albeit a thinner version that still packs in the necessary flavours.
The pungency of the shrimp paste isn’t as evident here if that’s what you’re looking for. But the other flavours and the texture of the chicken seem to have been well calibrated, which is why I still count it as a good piece of fried chicken.
While the food was good, service can definitely be improved. Perhaps because the stall was just starting for the day, call buzzers weren’t given out to the initial few customers, myself included. This led to a mini crowd forming around the stall waiting around for their chicken with no knowledge of when they would be ready. When a lady who placed her order after mine enquired nicely about the wait time, the cook sarcastically replied that the wait time would have to depend on when the chicken would be ready 🙄 He then finally answered the question by saying it would take around 5 more minutes. Since no time estimates were given for the food, and no call buzzers were given out, I felt that the way he answered the lady was rather unwarranted.
Overall, good food with service that can be improved. Maybe even the location too 😂

I liked the durian purée and the durian flavoured snow ice tastes quite thick and creamy. It was better than what I had expected; I expected it to be not so durian-ish, but turned out to be very substantial. The dessert came with three standard toppings- purée, green and yellow starch balls. The starch balls were horrible- basically just felt like I was eating balls of unnecessary and unflavoured carbs UGH. Thats aides, the dessert is good!!

Very well seasoned and slightly moist and oily. There were strings of fried egg, chicken slices and 奶白 veggie. I would say that this is so much better tasting than the pHad thai. However, I would say that it tastes a lot like fried cha kuay teow. Also, I requested for no nuts and they gave me sugar instead hahaha!!

[Lobang alert!!!] Live Crab Combo in World Famous Signature Sauce ($97), Dancing Crab at Orchard Central. What you get: 1 live crab (approx 800g), 350g prawns, 350g clams, sausages and corn. The crab and prawns were rather huge actually, and the sauce was finger licking good! Was so good that I started using the empty clam shells to scoop the sauce to drink.🤭

Part of the August 2018 seasonal menu; a showcase of in-season black truffles.
The roasted French chicken breast is tender and juicy, the natural sweet savoury flavour complementing the rich, savoury salty chicken au jus, stewed plum, and red wine gravy. The crispy skin is beautiful.
By contrast, the roasted French chicken thigh lollipop is more delicate in flavour, allowing you to appreciate the natural flavours of the chicken itself.
Served with soft boiled, crunchy ratte potato medallions, earthy black truffle butter which is so luxurious, black truffle shavings, a single fruity sweet stewed plum, and a juicy savoury salty tender chicken meat ball coated in a crisp, crumb batter.
Good value for money, medium large portion size is filling for an individual, so we decided to share this.
