About 5 years ago, I went to one of my first @ww ’s meetings. At that meeting, I made a comment about how I couldn’t wait to get to goal and be able to walk into a clothing store and love everything that I put on. One of the ladies who was a Lifetime member said that wasn’t realistic. She was at goal, and still had problems finding clothes she likes. Over the past 3 months, as I’m finally into my goal size (I’m about 6 lbs from goal, but that 6 pounds won’t really make a difference in what size I am), I realized that she was absolutely right. I don’t love everything that I try on (like this shirt on the right), but the difference is that I can now walk into ANY store and find something that fits me....and when I don’t like something on me, it’s just the wrong piece of clothing...not the wrong body. Before, it was *my* fault that I hated everything on me because I didn’t like my body. It wasn’t the clothing’s fault. Now, when I don’t like something on me, it’s not a good piece of clothing for my shape...which I DO like. I have #thickthighssavelives , a chest for days, and height of only 5’2.5”....and not everything is made to flatter that body type. Some things are meant for tall people, or people with a smaller chest, or thinner thighs...and that’s okay. Don’t misinterpret it: I’m all for counting your calories, but I am against taking it too seriously. We act as if we have to hit our exact caloric goal every single day in order to see results. And what happens when we overeat? We stress about it, get upset with ourselves, and feel the need to eat less the next day. I walk my dog every single day. I don’t necessarily count my steps or my distances, but I monitor it from time to time. Some days we’ll walk 5 miles total. On other days when the weather is crappy, we might walk just over 1 mile. Let’s estimate and say I burn 80 calories per mile walked. On a rainy day where I don’t walk as much, I’m burning over 200 calories less than I usually do! But do I eat 200 less calories to compensate? Nope. On the flip side, let’s say you are trying to eat 2200 calories every day to maintain your weight. You track everything, and realize at the end of the day, you ate 2400 calories. 200 calories extra! And this makes you feel awful. Look at the big picture. One day will never make or break you. We stress so much about our exact calories, but there are so many variables that affect that number. If you’re on your feet all day, you’ll burn more calories. On a super busy day at work, you might be stuck at your desk all day and not move much at all, burning less calories. Likewise, your consumption is going to vary each day, too. Use your calories as a guide, but remember that nothing is exactly the same from day to day. On March 18th of this year I took a hard look in the mirror. I was so disappointed for allowing myself to gain the weight back. I took a deep breath and stepped on the scale. I looked down and was in disbelief. 211.7 it read. I had promised myself when I got under 200 lbs that I would never get over that again. I had broken my promise. I cried a little but then I told myself “Hey! You’ve done it before you can do it again.” So I did! It wasn’t as easy as before. When I first started I was in college with a part time job and I had plenty of time to hit the gym 2 times a day or at least once a day EVERYDAY. I have a full time job now and more responsibilities so making it to the gym everyday wasn’t going to be possible. It’s been 9 months between these pictures. ( same shorts and same sports bra) 9 months of working towards my goal with stalls and gains and losses, but I’m so close! Today I weighed in at 181.7. Good Morning #fitfam let’s gear up this Saturday’ for another day to get better! Personally I’ve always believed in the power of water temperature in showers or baths. In this post you see the benefits of both #hot and #cold showers. During my collegiate football days I’d always during pre-season through October start my mornings with a cold shower to; 1) Wake up 2)Make my body ready for the punishment it was about to go through 3)Keep my immune system firing on all cylinders. To finish those days I’d have a hot shower or as hot as I could stand it, to allow my muscles to relax from the day, open my breathing, and allow for better sleep. Another blind weigh in done! I can't believe I find out the results next Saturday! Part of me actually doesn't even want to know, I know what I'm doing is working and I almost don't care about what the scales even say. The other part of me is looking forward to finding out. I feel better about myself and my journey already so I'm a little worried if I'm only 3lbs lighter over the last 6 weeks for example that it'll throw me off. I always relax over Christmas, but have already planned what days will be relaxed and what days will be on track on the 11 days I have off over Christmas.
