Stumbled across David Keller of the Center for Big Bend Studies and crew working to preserve a 1915 adobe store and cafe at La Harmonia store near Castolon in Big Bend National Park. The project involves shaving cane to make latillas for the ceiling and setting new vigas and latillas, along with making and laying new adobe bricks. Neat stuff!
What is your favorite drive in the park?
The Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive is a good one! This 30-mile drive leads to the Castolon Historic District and takes you past amazing scenery, such as Cerro Castellan seen here.
March is the busiest month in the park, so use caution on the roads. Watch for wildlife, obey posted speed limits, and keep an eye out for other visitors.
