Time out time with my bestie this morning...... This is Lichfield Cathedral., about 40 minutes from me. Now I, m not religious in any way, BUT, for me, I just revel and look in awe at the levels of skill and craftsmanship it took to build such places way back when. Everything from the stone masons to the carpenters and the blacksmiths. They were certainly at the top of their game.

В первые, когда его увидела - просто потекли слезы.
И каждый раз восхищает не меньше.
Собор святого Вита в Праге строился около 700 лет, это не может не восхищать.

• The story of an hangover in the beginnig of XVIII century.
At the beginning of the XVIII century an Italian artist named Francesco Ca'Bianca had come to Kotor for a very important commission but here he had an evening that changed his life forever. Finding no space for his art in Venice, he moved to Dalmatia and there he was commissioned to do a very important job at the Cathedral of St. Tripon in Kotor by one of the most prominent families of the bay, the Bolicas. His commission was 16,000 ducats and immediately he found local workers and a house.
On a cool September evening he received an invitation from the bishop of Kotor for an evening with some local nobles playing cards. The testimonies tell us that that evening the wine flowed as if it came down from a spring and our dear artist lost at cards the sum of 9,000 ducats. He barely managed to pay the workers who in the meantime organized themselves to make an attempt on his life and the administrator of Venice had to intervene on his behalf giving him a pass for Dalmatia once his work at the cathedral was finished. 🍷🧭📜 💸

He therefore turned to mankind only with regret. His cathedral was enough for him. It was peopled with marble figures of kings, saints and bishops who at least did not laugh in his face and looked at him with only tranquillity and benevolence. The other statues, those of monsters and demons, had no hatred for him – he resembled them too closely for that. It was rather the rest of mankind that they jeered at. The saints were his friends and blessed him; the monsters were his friends and kept watch over him. He would sometimes spend whole hours crouched before one of the statues in solitary conversation with it. If anyone came upon him then he would run away like a lover surprised during a serenade. ~ Victor Hugo, Nôtre Dame de Paris.
I could stare at cathedral ceilings all day
