Inspired by the “R.I.P., The Celebrity Interview” story in the @nytimes
by Jon Caramanica, I feel like I should offer a eulogy, of sorts, by sharing some of my *experiences* with the format. ....
In 2010 I showed up at a recording studio deep in Burbank to meet Christina Aguilera for a profile for #redbookmagazine
I walked into a cavelike room from a 100 degree day and stumbled around for about 3 full minutes while my eyes adjusted, at which point I saw Xtina herself, sitting silently in the corner in almost total darkness watching me bump into furniture like a fool. We talked. I wrote the story. A week later, she filed for divorce. I had a call scheduled with Cher (yes, Cher) during her Hawaiian vacation to talk about their movie Burlesque. And I had to ask her if she was as surprised as I was by the announcement. That’s when Cher started yelling at me from the beach in Maui to mind my own business. #celebrityinterview #RIP #longlivemagazines
