Here’s three #portlandoregon
breweries doling out gold. From @bridgeportbrew
Stumptown Candy Peel IPA, from @levelbeer
Lets Play German Pilsner, and @eclipticbrewing
Starburst IPA. Starting with Starburst from Ecliptic, pours golden yellow-orange with a pillowy two finger head. Smells of rinds of many citrus, and some other fruit sweetness. On the palette a family of citrus and tropical fruits lead you to a very piney bitter finish, almost no maltiness but still somehow full bodied even with medium carbonation and a thin crisp mouthfeel. A very good IPA for any occasion. Next the Stumptown Candy Peel from Bridgeport, a longtime favorite of mine, partly due to packaging. Brewed with Crystal, Centennial, and Styrian Golding, last of which contributes to the candied orange appeal hugely, as well as the actual orange rind and Vienna malts. It’s a very inventive take of a classic American IPA, pouring clean yellow, medium dense head, smells orange and rind but not too sweet. On the palette the Vienna malts lead, right into a real orange candy smack, and a nice bitter hoppy finish. So very drinkable and goes with food. And lastly Let’s Play Pils from Level, I haven’t tried much other Level beer and I usually don’t drink pilsners, but this was a freebie, and a real treat. Clear gold, quick dissipating white head, smells very biscuity and a touch floral. The palette follows the aromas, with added grassiness and more bitterness from the floral hops than expected. High carbonation, medium bodied, very dry slightly bitter finish. A true German pils. Cheers to Portland Beer Mastery!
