What a frickin’ week- been MIA more than usual... got into an accident earlier this week (everyone is okay-thank life) and subsequently dealing with the aftermath, which included stress-induced sickness... so phone time has decreased all in all. Starting to come around and able to eat a little bit more. Part of my recovery has been REALLY focusing on holistic treatments. After the accident, I downed as much omega3s and antioxidants I could possibly to help with any type of brain oxidation/stress. Since being sick, I’ve upped my vitamin C intake, as well as plant based protein- such as collagen- to boost availability and digestibility since I haven’t been able to ingest foods that require mechanical digestion. Today’s breakfast included all the healing goodies: vitamin C, fiber, antioxidants/microbials/inflammatorys, probiotics- as well as a special immunity strengthener: CHAGA. Chaga is #2
on my #smarteatssunday
Mushroom Series and for good reason. Chaga has been found to boost the immune system by regulating Cytokines, responders of your immune system that signal what needs to be fought and what does not. It acts as an adaptogen by either increasing cytokines, making a more alert immune system, or decreasing, especially important for those with autoimmunity. Chaga has been also shown to decrease oxidative stress, which plays in part with decreased inflammation from autoimmune diseases. This oxidative stress can affect our DNA. In animal studies, chaga can decrease DNA oxidative damage by 40%. Yes, these are from animal studies, but many animals have similar process’ to humans, so it won’t be long before we can see this being studied in humans. Seasons are a-changin’, stock up on your chaga now!
