Aretha Franklin, THE Queen of Soul, was blessed not only with the voice of an angel, but the mind , heart & soul of one. When she sang her voice danced through our souls and lifted our spirits. And her activism; her fight for equal rights and justice lifted our world. She will be missed but NEVER forgotten R.E.S.P.E.C.T
I was lucky enough to be introduced to her music by my parents, who played an album of The Queens for my friends andI l (when we wanted to watch TV), Most of my friends were black I grew up in a town were I went to public school sthat was mostly 70% black) Only one of my friends kew her music but by the end of the album I was transfixed and we were big fans-- the girls a little more so because, although Aretha touched something big in me… she sparked a fire in them. Like she did this for so many women & men.
I was never was lucky enough to hear her sing live, but I was lucky enough to hang with her close friend the GREAT Smokey Robinson for a while. He taught me how to play the card game Uno and told me FANTASTIC stories of Detroit, Barry Gordi, Michael Jackson and of course the Queen of soul. From that day on, whenever I heard The Queen’s music my pumped blood with the absolute love & admiration Smokey had for her, possibly because I was ignorant of the SO MANY THINGS she did outside of music to make our world better (Many things she NEVER talked about and did privately & without any fanfare or publicity. From that I learned, although in the spotlight for many of her causes, she cared about helping… not about the acolairds that come with it)
Tp her family and close friend my condolences
