Your massing phases can look ugly.
I want to touch on something I don't think many people do cover. That's the fact that as you get more advanced, have more muscle, you look better at higher levels of body fat.
For example here in the bottom right, I look big, I don't look overly fat. However, in the top right, I look kinda skinny fat. I'm definitely fatter in the upper right, but a lot of the reason it looks poor is because I simply don't have much mass.
So if you're not so far in your lifting career you might not look like others do when they mass. Or it might just be that your body fat distribution is unfavourable, this is also something to take into consideration.
Ask almost any pro bodybuilder/bikini/physique & they'll agree, you will go through periods in your career where you don't look so good. However, because the biggest accounts are already those later in their career, this often isn't seen.
Let me tell you this, my front double bicep is poor. I have quite high lat insertions, my waist is big, my abs are not clear & blocky. However, I think you'll agree, it's getting better & better. This has ONLY been possible by taking my mass to ugly positions at times.
