”We choose to be freedom hikers because there is more slavery now than ever in the history of the world. And we choose to take our bodies to the limit by choice so others who do not have a choice have a chance.”

PNW (Pacific Northwest) Treks: Colchuck Lake.
A slight breeze brushed across the back of my neck with the last light of the day finding it's way around the mountain peak reminding me that the cold fresh northwest air was about to become colder. Day transitioning into night, there I was standing in front of Dragontail Peak - mesmerized and imagining I was lost in Skyrim. Then reality set in, I was near the mountain top by myself in total darkness yet determined to find my way back.
It was an adventurous Sunday like none of my other hikes. I reached the trailhead early in the afternoon, hiked thru 5 miles of challenging elevation gains, switchbacks with snow and icy covered trails at higher elevations making the trip more challenging. It was ~5pm, the sun had set, darkness had arrived. I slowly descended down the mountain trying to find the path and my footing, with a few slips and falls, I cautiously moved down the trail. A headlamp and the GPS on my watch to guide me thru path I was able to navigate thru the maze. I temporarily got lost but was able to find my way back when I paid attention to where I was supposed to go.
To make a long story short - it took me about 4 hrs in the dark to get back to the trailhead with temperatures dropping down to 15 (-11 celsius) degrees fahrenheit with certain mishaps (getting lost) along the way. Oh, I must say that the stars above were so beautiful - it was gorgeous looking up at alpine trees with the stars as a backdrop of a clear night.
An experience I will definitely remember but probably won't highly recommend to others. =) @donpardotcom

Backpacking or doing the thru-hike in the Enchantments has been on my list for forever and it didn’t happen this year, but I did get a peek at one of the “gateways” of the Enchantments with this hike to Colchuck Lake.
Absolutely spectacular ⚡️🌈. If you’re not into hiking or not sure if you’re up for it, feel free to ping me. I’d be happy to help you find a beautiful hike based on your preferences/abilities/driving distance.

A little alpine lake beauty for your feed this morning 😍 Yesterday we finally hiked to Colchuck Lake for hike number 19 and it was absolutely stunning! Such an ethereal & gorgeous place. I've been wanting to do it for years & it exceeded my expectations. We started the hike around 8 on Friday & took our time up. Arrived about 10:30 & there was hardly anyone at the lake! Spent about 2 hours there just enjoying paradise. About an hour and a half in 2 big groups showed up but it was peace & quiet for most of our time there as the other few people were quiet & spread out.
Going early on a Friday was so worth it & I'm glad we were able to take the day off! Only encountered 10 people up & many more down & I'm sure Saturday is much worse even if you start early. Wildfire smoke haze had cleared up considerably. Amazing views along the way that you probably couldn't see a week ago. The lake was still a little bit hazy but much clearer than it's been based on photos I've seen on Instagram. Imagine this view completely clear though, you could make out every little vivid detail on those epic peaks!
If you haven't done this popular hike you need to! As for difficulty I was expecting it to be crazy hard based on trip reports but I was pleasantly surprised to see it was pretty moderate and I've done harder. Don't get me wrong the elevation gain is tough, especially the last mile and a half and super rocky which hurt my knees, calves, & hips but I just didn't think it was as hard as others have said. Keep in mind though I've been hiking all summer & stay active in the gym and these are all factors. My suspicion is a lot of beginners do this trail due to social media which is why so many have said it's very difficult. As for any hike always be prepared and take your time if it's difficult for you! It's not a race & enjoy the nature!

That's Aasgard Pass in the background and we climbed that today. Possibly the most difficult thing I've ever done. And it was totally worth it.
