❗️UPDATE❗️ WE ARE MEETING AGAIN AT NOON, 5/22, OUTSIDE 600 S. MICHIGAN AVE. Union and non-union members, please join us!
Today, Union members, proudly wearing union shirts and buttons, met in front of 600 S. Michigan at 8:30 am. Walking together, we made our way to the President’s floor with the intention to meet with Dr. Kim to speak about the layoffs happening across the College. After waiting in the reception area, we were met with head of security asking us to step outside. We were told to go downstairs, but we stated that we were wanting to meet with Dr. Kim. He responded saying there was a process in scheduling a meeting and we said we would like to start that process. He asked for us to head downstairs, and wasn’t answering our questions. Eventually we did as told, being escorted by 3 other security guards, to the first floor. We were then told to head outside. The entire time we were peaceful and non-disruptive, but making our presence known. @ccchronicle
was with us the entire time and we debriefed with them afterward. Head of security declined to comment.
We are going to continue to advocate for all staff at #ColumbiaChi
. The actions of the administration not only affect those laid off, but those who remain, as the work will be passed on to them. In the end, our students are the ones who suffer. We are #USofCC
and we are #UnionStrong
