[GRATITUDE & PAPA ORAWIEC’S BOOTS]
I try and not let a day go by where I don’t look at my parents and appreciate them. Even for the little things, and particularly on days when I am feeling not-so-epic. .
Today wasn’t one of those days, but I stopped on my way rushing out the door to the car and looked at my Dad’s work boots. .
He’s a messy one. Our backyard looks like a junk yard (behind the garage where Mum let’s him put his ‘junk’. And he often wears t-shirts and shorts with stains on them or holes in them. We joke about it, but it’s for logical reasons - he’s often outside keeping the place tidy, tinkering, and keeping his mind and body active. .
We talked the other day about what prevents dementia and I pointed out - exactly this!! Keeping our mind and body active! Having a young family to joke and tickle you in the ribs doesn’t hurt either! I swear he’s taken years off his life the last 6 months I have been living back at home bugging him 😉 🐛 .
But I digress … gratitude. .
I looked at his boots and my heart swelled. .
There will be a time when there are no boots.
There will be a time when I can’t tickle him.
There will a time when his bum won’t poke up in the air as he stokes the fire in the winter. .
But until then, these times are precious.
Notice the wrinkles.
Notice the silly little habits.
Notice the things you don’t normally see when your eyes glaze past and you are busy, because THESE are what is important. .
WE are what is important 💚
I had been searching for my word of the year but nothing really felt quite right. There was a lot of words that I thought I “should” have, but nothing really resonated. I knew it would come to me though, so I let it go. Then I was reading a book and it mentioned reclaiming what is ours as women. I burst into tears. I had found my word.
This year is about reclaiming the things that I have denied myself out of fear, fear of others judgements, fear of not being good enough or parts I have disowned out of fear.
I am reclaiming my power, my worth and my choices and the way I choose to express myself.
I am reclaiming my self-love and my right to receive abundance and love.
I am reclaiming my shadow and the things that I have been ashamed of, fearful because I have been told I am too much or not enough. I reclaim my courage to go into my shadow and love what I find to bring it into the light.
I am reclaiming my beauty, not what society dictates is acceptable but what I choose it to be. I am unique and different and I love that!
I am reclaiming the labels that have made me uncomfortable, like healer, witch, oracle, energy worker and the best Aunty in the world.
I am reclaiming the magnificent being that I am underneath the programing that may say otherwise, the women I am meant to be, was born to be, so I can help others find their way back and acknowledge the magnificent being they are.
I am reclaiming my truth and the way I want to live in this world, disregarding the opinions of others if they disagree, being strong enough to have healthy boundaries, saying No and doing shit the way I want to.
I am reclaiming my intuition, my truth and my inner guidance, because I have learnt that ignoring that is a disaster.
I am reclaiming my dreams and what I want in the future.
I am reclaiming my trust in myself, my subconscious and the universe to provide me beyond the limits I have placed on myself.
I am reclaiming my commitment to me and bringing the greatest expression of myself to the world, shining as brightly as I can.
I love how my word has been playing out so far this year. Do you have a word of the year?
These amazing strangers (scroll right) were my tour guides today. Because when you’re in a serious funk, you gotta shake it out, and today that meant going on a farm tour and cows. Lots of cows. That’s Sarah on the right. She’s the cow queen of Colorado (I gave her that title because she deserves it). Not only does she drink a gallon of milk everyday (it literally saved her life), but in just a few hours she taught me more about cows that I ever thought I wanted to know, and by the end, I wanted to know even more. Sarah has a beautiful perspective on ranching and animal raising, and shared with me how the connection with these animals effects how she shows up in community, with people, and in relationship. “Ranchers are the some of the kindest people I know. When you learn how to be with and read animals, it effects how you interact.” I’m still continuously in awe of how these random adventures and moments with strangers are able to imprint my neurons with positivity. It took two humans and a sh*t ton of cows, but I’m finally feeling the magic again. #connectioncure
There is never only one way, there is only your way and do not let anyone tell you any different. The science of the heart shows ya that we are so in tune with ourselves when we choose to be conscious, but many of us forget or simply deny that we have this true power. This true gift to trust our own selves. Learn to listen with your heart, not your head. Breathe into your heart space and blend your body to your your breath, ease your mind of it’s constant chattering, release the pain body and simply trust that it will all be as it’s meant to be. ‘Man came to realise through awareness that everything in his life is just perfect as it should be’.... In beauty school you are literally taught to be as fake as you can be, to put on red lipstick, smile as big as you can and do the job you meant to do - A big part of me gets that because no one wants to come see a therapist who is going to dump all their sadness and negativity onto you - but I do believe to create true connections you need to be authentic. For a lot of my career I would put a big smile on my face no matter what was going on and I did my job but over the years of building relationships with my clients they want to know “Candice are you always happy” “don’t you have bad days” “don’t you get tired” the answer is absolutely yes to all three of those and when I speak genuinely from my heart and share my experiences the authentic connection and love that forms is incredible! There is a difference between putting a big red smile on your face and but still emitting negative energy in your work space and acknowledging today is not the best day, how can I best manage it without passing on my negative energy to my clients- for me I have realized I have to disclose this to my clients and then it completely shifts and the connection we have energizes me and it is so beautiful! I had to post this because yesterday I had been up all night with horrendous tooth ache and had a full day booked from 8am -6pm I really did not know how I was going to survive - and because of my amazing clients I did! I love the humanness about the career I have chosen and just the blessings I receive! I had a cancellation at 3pm yesterday and so did my dentist which meant I got a root canal and back to my next client at 4! Talk about miracles 🙏

Birds on a wire. Took this video in a bright early morning in May...probably on my way to work...meaning to post it for sometime. A starling perches on a wire trying to hold on...surely it would be easier to either fly or find a more sheltered position?! What I love in this short scene is the way the sparrow comes along to join him/her and they enter into a beautiful tick-tocking dance - however temporary. For me, it is a metaphor on life....how our hold on life is always somewhat precarious and transitory...but facing this truth or sharing this position with another can add balance and meaning and beauty and fun... knowing, but not necessarily worrying about the fact, that once the dance is over, one or another or both will inevitably have to fly away. #birds #birdsonawire #starling #sparrow #spring #philosophy #relationship #dance #spirituality #connection #life #religion #lifeanddeath #hope #love

I took this photo after an evening power nap a while ago, so I could keep going in order to pick up our son at hockey practice tonight. I was all ready to post about the decision to nap/sleep vs. late night eating when you're tired and then my wife said, "Why don't you keep sleeping, and I'll go." I had come downstairs and was snuggling with our daughter (still half sleeping) and answered, "Oh my God, that's such a gift," when my daughter said "You're the gift." #raremoment

HOW TO PROCESS CHALLENGING EMOTIONS
For those shit just got real, where if feels like your world has ended, it’s too painful to comprehend and all you want to do is run away, dive into a bottle of tequila or chocolate, or both.
A few of my amazing girls are going through it at the moment and I adore finding ways to support them through.
These moments are your biggest guides, provide the most personal growth and really allow you to choose what is right for you and what isn’t.
If you give yourself the time to process instead of numbing away.
These steps were inspired by @sitwhithwhit
and works with the biggies and the day to day crap.
Go grab your journal, create some privacy and dive in..
1. Feel it
What are you experiencing? Where in the body are you feeling it? What is the sensation like?
2. Name it
Label the emotion, don’t judge it - no right or wrong, just give it a name.
3. Sit with it
Don’t push it away. Really sit with the feeling and notice the physical sensations, it may get worse before it gets better. Don’t run away.
4. Ease in
Let your body start to relax. The emotion doesn’t control you. Notice the parts of your body where the physical sensation is lessening. Applaud yourself for sitting with it.
When we experience troubling emotions we often stop breathing. Focus on your breath, breathe in deeply and extend your out breath – counting in for 4, out for 8. It doesn’t have to be perfect, just by breathing out for longer you activate your parasympathetic nervous system and helps you to feel safe.
Now that your breathing has stabilised your mind will become clearer. Look at the situation with fresh eyes. Translate your narrative into pure FACTS, journaling this helps – pour out what is in your head, repeat steps 1-5 if necessary, then translate into pure facts.
‘He’s doing this to hurt me’ can become ‘he is acting in the only way he knows how’
