my heart out for a #costume #trailride
coming up this weekend. Costuming is my favorite type of sewing and design work. Thankfully we picked some simpler costumes since we’re on a bit of a time crunch! We’ll have pictures Sunday when we wear them!
Never underestimate the power of tactile sensation within paint jobs. Especially when working in the area of visual effects.
One aspect of my work that sets it apart is the lack of reliance on topical application. With proper preparation, precision, and attention within the masking stage, there is minimal need to go and resculpt the proper shapes of the damage.
This allows appropriate registration of the three dimensional aspect of the process and generates information that the brain strings as “realistic” due to reflections and shade change due to raising, indentations, and fine surface texturing. These techniques are not present on the original helmets, but I apply them because
1. The helmet is the most important part/most seen. It is his face.
2. We live in a digital age of extremely high (4K+) resolutions and the original paint jobs were not meant to withstand that sort of fidelity. Remember how much fun it was to run your fingers across the mountain range on that 3D globe as a kid? Yeah, those kill stripes feel goooooood...

Well things seem to be going swimmingly, I only had to make the handle twice and the blade thrice, but I'm making progress🙃
Some rad events to check out this weekend!
Looks like everyone has been enjoying my Cosplays so here's my Rapunzel set up at @howl.fx.
I'm bringing this oldie but goodie out again soon!!!
The 2nd part of my costuming & cosplay portrait series is up now. Join me once more as I celebrate some cool people and the work they put into what they wear at conventions.
Go see them at FANgirlblog.com or via a link in my bio.
