I went to a therapist one time who told me I was a “Highly Sensitive Person.” Apparently this is a label and there is a book on it and everything. One little quiz later and I was labeled as “HSP”. Wtf? •
It didn’t sit well with me then and now I can say with full confidence it’s pure crap. Luckily since then I’ve learned there is a whole different therapy field out there that refers to this as “emotional attunement” .... and it’s considered a good thing! •
Emotions are valid and being in tune with your emotions and the emotions of others is a strength my friends. •
Where I think the balance lies is in being able to feel our emotions and own them as “our own” without needing to push them on others. Other people didn’t make me feel this way. This is my experience. This is my responsibility. This is my truth. •
Likewise, we need to be able to sit with, show up, and be present for the difficult emotions of others without taking that pain on ourselves — without it becoming our responsibility or our duty to fix or solve. Without blame. Pain is pain. Emotion is emotion. It comes to us all. •
The goal is to be a safe place for ourselves and others to FEEL without judgement. Without needing to change anything. As Brene Brown says, rarely can someone’s response change an emotion anyway. What changes emotion is connection. Feeling heard. Feeling supported. Feeling safe 💜 •
What judgements have you experienced about your emotions? •

Introducing Anderson Blair Martinez. Born January 17, 2019 at 5:04pm weighing 7lbs 12oz and 21.5in long. We all fell in love at first sight, especially Davina Jay. She didn’t want to stop holding him or even leave the hospital without him! We are so blessed with our new addition and thank God for a safe delivery and healthy baby.
“We become what we think about. Energy flows where attention goes.” .
I had my girls do a powerful exercise today and it had nothing to do with physical movement. We chatted about manifesting our goals and writing them down as if they'd already happened. Then you do that every single day until it's actually happened. When you focus your mind on where you're going, you go places. .
I have two of mine in the comments. You willing to share yours??? I'm going to go enjoy my warm drink on the couch under a heated blanket. Cozy. Always. It's my jam. Enjoy your evening. 💕xoxo
Who else has done a Vision Board party?! Our students walked away energized and motivated to work hard to accomplish their goals. Vision Boards are a creative way to get students to see past their current situation.
Hedbanz has become one of my favorite new games to play with kids in therapy! So many skills needed and lots of fun. What games do you use?
