“We were all monsters and bastards, and we were all beautiful.” — Rachel Hartman
I adore this duology! I originally bought it bc of its beauuutiful cover (hardcover copy @ home) but then quickly realized I couldn’t put it down.
Would you rather have a pet dragon OR be a dragon, like Seraphina?

I picked #TinMan
up on a whim and read it while away for a weekend. The story is about the many forms and complications of friendship. I can’t say too much without giving major plot points away. It’s a book I recommend and as an added bonus it’s a quick read. Who wouldn’t want to own such a beautiful book?
This year I’ve been hitting it out of the park with my random purchases. Some of my favourite books ever have been books I picked up without knowing anything about them previously. Do you only buy books your looked into or have had recommended? Or do you allow yourself to pick up a book purely based on gut feelings?

💬 Are you kind to other people and believe in them, but if they fail in kindess and disappoint you, do you easily forget or remember that for a lifetime? 💌
Unfortunately, I remember everything and it's not easy for me to forgive people their mistakes and ugly words they said. But I'm trying to see the good in everyone. This 👇 is really helpful and always cheers me up! 🌻
The Paradoxical Commandments
People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.
The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.
People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway. -Kent M. Keith, The Silent Revolution: Dynamic Leadership in the Student Council

I’m sick of them. I never want to see them again. Except Aros; he smells nice. And Rome; because he’s so strong I’m pretty sure not even Rau can get past him. I don’t need the others. Except Siret. I’m pretty sure he hates me, but he’s really good at catching me like just before I face-plant into something. But the others, I don’t need them. Not at all.” I paused, my brow furrowing, my mouth pursing, and then I quickly blurted, “Except Coen and Yael. Coen is really good at making decisions, and if I leave out Yael he’ll probably hunt me down and haunt me-”
“That's all of them,” Emmy interrupted smoothly.” ― Jaymin Eve/ Jane Washington, Trickery
Hey guys. I’m writing to you from other side of the ocean. This jet lag will be annoying for a few days but at least I’m off work 😂 •

Another snowflake lands near his nose. I brush that one away too. Then I pull off one of my mittens and lay my hand on the side of his head. He turns and presses his head into my hand, the way a cat would. I run my fingers from the top of his head to his chin. His armor seems to be pulsing hot and cold- some snowflakes melt and some don't. His breath rattles deeply, like the purring of a tiger.
His left hand rises up slowly and lingers there for a moment, suspended in the air, before coming to rest on my shoulder. Seconds later he slides it onto my face.
We sit like that, snowflakes drifting down on us, for several minutes. August purrs softly, as meanwhile I have things caught in my throat. Words. Stuff I should say and stuff I want to say and a whole lot of things that are ridiculous.

Did you hear?! Did you hear?!
This books' sequel now has a name: Cold Falling White and a synopsis on Good Reads 😍 If you haven't read the first book I wouldn't read the synopsis for the second though.
Which is okay. It's better when at least the name of the book isn't a spoiler. YES that kinda irritated me with Daughter of the Pirate King🙈

review time!! finished this a while ago and i’ll be honest i didn’t have high expectations when it was on my tbr. i was expecting a very normal contemporary but instead got an eye opening story that fit so much content in such a short book, without it being rushed. this book does deal with ocd, since i’m not very educated on the topic, i can’t tell you if the representation was accurate, but i adored how it wasn’t immediately cured as it is in other books as soon as she meets a boy. you saw norah’s development as the story goes on, and how she lives her life. at the end (slight spoiler) she still struggles with ocd, which is one of the first times i’ve seen someone’s illness not be cured instantly at the end of the story, which is accurate to real life. (end of the not really spoiler) i’m so very happy i read this as i loved it!! i felt the story was realistic and didn’t romanticize mental illness (which is super important). i think i gave this 4.5 stars? i don’t remember exactly but i’m so happy i read it. i had such a connection to the characters, it really was amazing!
🌷if you’re still reading, have you read/are you planning to read this book?🌷
let me know what you thought of it if you did! i’m curious to know if anyone had a different opinion or thought the same!
bye guys! (zahra u did this)

Two hearts. Twice as vulnerable.
Manhattan, 1850. Born out of wedlock to a wealthy socialite and a nameless immigrant, Cora Lee can mingle with the rich just as easily as she can slip unnoticed into the slums and graveyards of the city. As the only female resurrectionist in New York, she’s carved out a niche procuring bodies afflicted with the strangest of anomalies. Anatomists will pay exorbitant sums for such specimens—dissecting and displaying them for the eager public.
Cora’s specialty is not only profitable, it’s a means to keep a finger on the pulse of those searching for her. She’s the girl born with two hearts—a legend among grave robbers and anatomists—sought after as an endangered prize.
Now, as a series of murders unfolds closer and closer to Cora, she can no longer trust those she holds dear, including the young medical student she’s fallen for. Because someone has no intention of waiting for Cora to die a natural death.

What are some of your cover buys?
What cover buys did you end up enjoying?
What cover buys did you end up not liking?
What cover buys did you end up losing interest in?
Guess what? I still haven’t finished a book yet this month. In fact, I haven’t even made it through half of a book yet this month haha.
It doesn’t look promising in terms of reading tonight too, so I guess I’ll aim to read this weekend?
Tomorrow is my last day of school for the week, so maybe this weekend I’ll be able to make my way through my current read!
Hey, even if I start making my way through my English final project read I’ll be happy ha

QOTD: What book did you buy solely based on its cover?
My cover buy was The Last Namsara, I kept seeing it all over Instagram and was just intrigued by it. Then I saw it slightly discounted and couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

- I bought this novel on a whim because the cover is Gatsby-esque and I am SO glad I did. This historical fiction novel is one of my all time favourites. I loved it so much I read it twice in twelve months, which is rare as I hardly ever reread books.
The novel follows Count Alexander Rostov, who is sentenced to house arrest at the Hotel Metropol in 1922.
The novel spans thirty years, and in that time we come to truly adore Rostov, and the relationships he makes throughout his imprisonment in the hotel. He is charming, witty and an absolutely delight to read about. Despite his situation, he is always positive. I would highly recommend this novel to anyone.
This novel also has Grand Budapest Hotel vibes, so I'd also recommend checking that film out if you haven't yet. .

"My father used to say that opression isn't a finite state. It's a weight that is carried until it becomes too heavy, and then it is thrown off. Not without struggle, not without pain, but he believed the weight would always, always be fought and overcome." - Tracy Banghart •
I have a review of this book on my blog if you want to check it out! (Link in bio) 💚
Happy Monday! The weather has been outrageous here since last night and it's supposed to continue for a bit. This gloomy day made it ten times harder to actually adult today and not call off to lay in bed 😴
Fun fact: thrillers, especially psychological ones, are one of my favorite genres! I love all of the suspense and trying to figure out who did the crime or whatever it may be. I am also obsessed with true crime and have been using all of my willpower not to binge every true crime documentary on Netflix 😅
Recommend some of your favorite thrillers or true crime shows so I can check them out please! 🤗

Happy Monday!!! Hope your week is getting off to a great start ❤️
I've been collecting the DC Icons series since they started coming out, but sadly I haven't been able to actually read them yet...do you do this? What series are you collecting? The covers are all so stunning, but especially this one for Catwoman by @therealsjmaas
QOTD: Who are some of your favourite powerful women from books or comics? Comment below and let's share the Girl Power 💪🏻
Until next time, lovelies 😘
This year I set my reading goal a little lower than previous years (down to 50/yr from 80/yr) to take off some of the self-imposed pressure that was draining the joy of reading from me. What a great decision. I'm enjoying my daily reading ritual without feeling like I'm scrambling to finish and I'm actually ahead of schedule and 80% of the way to my goal! Big thanks to the Bristol Library System for keeping the books coming after I banned myself from buying new books (no room on the shelves 😭) and to Ryan for bringing me coffees and backing away slowly when I've got my nose in a book! 🤓 Happy Sunday! #WHPdailylife
Morning nerds. This morning is nuts. It’s raining and grey and I have to be out to do things. But on the bright side is finished The Last Magician yesterday and HOLY SHIT! This book guys! THIS BOOK! I went into it knowing nothing and ended up failing completely in love with it! The world (1900 New York is my weakness 😍), the characters (sassy and kickass) and the plot! Everything about this book is my cup of tea and I Can’t wait for the sequel 😫😍 Go check it out. ASAP! •
I’ll be gone for the next two days because of Jewish New Year! Will miss you guys 😘
