I’ve recently been enjoying hosting some 1:1 coaching sessions for artists. I’ve over ten years of experience to share with you - I started my career completely from scratch in the recession of 2008.(My first career was in music!) I had no business plan, no trust fund nor financial help but a very strong desire to make my new creative life work. I was completely self taught and I’d also just adopted a baby girl (who is now 10!!) - just to add to the mix! I had bags of enthusiasm and tenacity and a dog eared determination to make my creative career a success.
I know the processes involved in designing, creating a brand from nothing and taking it in different directions as I’ve actually been there. I know first hand the challenges involved in creating a product or a body of work that may or may not sell as I’ve been there. I’m proud to say that I’ve made lots of mistakes but have learnt and gained a great deal of knowledge in doing so! I’ve worked with many companies (and still do) have over 20 books published and have created a brand for myself and a livelihood that has supported my family for the past ten years.I still find time to design and make my own products to sell from my website alongside my design work and my children’s books.
My coaching is 1:1 via Skype or face to face with me here in my studio. Within the coaching I also allocate two hours behind the scenes where I look at your website, your work and social media, taking notes and making observations. * My coaching is purely for makers, illustrators and artists - not bloggers or individuals offering a service - I feel very passionate about this as despite there being some overlaps, selling a service is VERY different to selling a handmade product / print / textile / artwork and the market place for these is very different too. I believe unless you’ve built a career from a tangible product you’ve actually made and are living proof that you can make a living from it, only then can you really and truly know what is involved. (My previous career was in teaching ) Do you have any questions? Further details can be found in my web shop x
Our top tip of today is for all the avid networking people who love collecting business cards (we're one of them!), but who have no current system of keeping them organised. Nowadays there's an app for almost everything, and the one to help you out in this case is this one: CamCard. We've previously mentioned CamScanner, and CamCard is from the same provider, INTSIG. CamCard is the world’s first business card reader app working across all platforms. It allows us to scan, digitise and save business cards instantly to our Contacts database with any smartphone or tablet camera. Very handy when you have lots of lovely business cards, but no time to type and organise them all! The process is very easy - you simply take a photo (with any Android or iOS phone) and CamCard instantly recognises the details and auto-fills the information on the cards, such as phone numbers, email, address, etc. into the usual 'Contacts' list fields.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Another benefit is that it will sync your data to the cloud for easy access on any device on any platform. There are many other helpful things, such as being able to store your own business card on the app, and being able to share contacts easily. And all this is from the free version of the app! How do you organise and store the business cards you collect?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Today I'm grateful for the library and supportive friends!
Yup, a book to help me be creative.. cause im just not.. and..Ive been in a rut with homeschooling, even doubting my decision. Comparing myself to others, fearing we arent doing enough etc. All the basic and Im sure common thoughts. While at the library, I was expressing my feeling to my best friend, she's becoming a teacher, and I needed to vent. By the time we left the library, I felt good about letting things off my chest and with getting a great reminder to not be so hard on myself, and to stop comparing and remember my orginal plan, the reasons why I was doing this in the first place. Best of all, an offer to help me. Sometimes its hard to accept help, and sometimes its not a thought to extend the help, but she did and it came at the perfect time! And her words were encouraging!

: Lists, Lists, Lists!
Are you like me and struggle to keep lists in your head? It's been something that I have struggled with all my life. I don't know if it's some kind of condition or some form of dyslexia, I'm not sure what it is but I can't retain lists in my head. I managed to find a really good app called Wunderlist and it's really helping me so far. It tells me what I need to do today, what I need to do during the week, what time, who it is and I get email reminders. It's massively worth it if you can't keep things in your noggin.
I'm even worse at remembering dates so this app is fab. I'm looking forward to having a catch up with Gemma today my business development coach to talk about what's happening so I'll let you know how it goes!
Also this biography I'm writing seems to be getting longer and longer I need Eleni to pick the best bits!
