“Setu” Sanskrit for bridge. This is so appropriate as this painting served as the bridge to higher awareness and connection as I was creating her.
👁👁 Watch that capitalism in your creative process. 👁👁 If you’re judging your artistic success by number of finished goods, you’re gonna have a bad time. Remember, you don’t need to make consumable items to think of yourself as a real artist. You don’t need to be easily marketable or just pick one practice to be a real artist. You don’t have to have a consistent output of finished products. 👁👁👁 It IS a healthy idea to establish a working process that feels good; to make life more bearable, perhaps even rich. It is good to give yourself space to experiment; to be bold and then to edit. To notice. To ask what the painting or the song needs you to do for it. To be persistent. ⚡️ART IS A PRACTICE.⚡️ So keep practicing. 👁👁👁👁👁👁👁👁👁👁👁👁👁👁👁👁👁👁👁👁👁👁👁👁👁👁👁 Please repeat: I do not need to exhaust myself to be a successful artist. I do not need to be perfect the first time to be a successful artist. I do not need to prove to anybody that I am a successful artist. The season of letting go is upon us. My last online CIJ class of the year graduates tomorrow. It’s always bittersweet. I will miss seeing them every week. Now, it’s time for me to let go and watch them soar. I love y’all. ☺️🙌🏻🌟
Every decision leads you here. To this moment, the one you’re existing in now. I’ve been reflecting lately, as I often do around this time of year, on who I’ve become. The chances I took, the opportunities I said yes to, the people I walked away from; each connection and crushing blow making a lasting imprint on my heart. And it is here, in this sacred space, where I feel whole. •
Life doesn’t happen to us, no mater what kind of circumstances are thrown our way. We have a choice on how to respond. I can either view my life as beautiful or difficult, depending on my spiritual advantage point. When I stopped fighting myself and everyone around me, I unknowingly changed course; setting off a fire of possibility. It wasn’t easy, hitting that hard emotional bottom. And yet, I am grateful for the fall. •
Deep and dirty self-discovery is a gift of healing. It’s my recovery. With great intention, I cleared the space for growth and a fulfilling life of love and wonderment. This is my experience, my journey, and I am humbled beyond measure.•
A creative block is an experience that all people face at some point in their life. Name how it feels to you. Is it a feeling of loss, constriction, paralyzation, hesitancy, cautiousness, blankness, barrenness? It helps to get really clear with how it feels. Then ask - have you remembered to take care of yourself lately? Is there balance in your life? Are you getting restorative sleep and eating nourishing foods? What could be removed from your path to alleviate the block? What form of play can you engage in to feel energized again? What are your thoughts about being blocked? What were the circumstances the last time you were blocked? Write down your answers and what should come forward are some underlying beliefs that are causing your creative block.

I ate my first oyster today. It was my dear friend’s bubbly brunch birthday celebration and at first I said no thank you to oysters. I’ll never. Because dangerous raw. Then my sweet friend—who’s traveled widely—told me some of the foods she’s eaten to honor hosts from various cultures. This reminded me of something my beloved aunt once said, that if I questioned all the potentially risky food, I’d never eat. And then I thought about the phrase, “The world is your oyster.” And how often I’m tempted to say no to abundance and adventure in so many forms. No that’s not for me... I’ve seen so many other people argue against their own curiosity too. If it’s not familiar, we turn it away. Play it safe. Today I wondered what would happen if instead I gave thanks? Enjoyed the bounty with gratitude? So I ate. Down the hatch. Then I asked my friend about the denser, less slippery part. She told me that was the start of a pearl. This is my second time reading Year of Yes.
I think this is the perfect time of year as I start to reflect on 2018 and prepare for 2019.
My theme for 2018 was 'calm' and I have focused on this theme all year.
When things were challenging - I kept reminding myself to move forward - calmly.
When I was unsure and wanted to quit - I reminded myself to be calm and find viable solutions.
When I wanted to put myself out there more - I calmly wrote about my accomplishments and successes - without feeling like I was overdoing it. (It's not bragging when it's true).
I calmly said YES to more things that stretched me - and I continue to amaze myself.
I'm excited to explore this book, through journaling, with the Bold Living Today community.

Working with a life coach is different from working with a therapist. But there are a few similarities. If you are depressed, anxious, dealing with a serious trauma or struggling with an addiction, a therapist will help guide you back to a healthy baseline. If you are stuck in your relationship with your partner or job, frustrated with how slow you are accomplishing your goals, in a creative rut or getting in your own way, working with a life coach can help you arrive at insights to move through life more easily and elevate your circumstances. You may work with a life coach and therapist simultaneously. Think about it like working with a personal trainer and nutritionist. Working on yourself in any capacity is a gift you give yourself and a gift you give others, as they benefit from your newly found inner wisdom.

and her sweet pup today at her pop-up shop at @modernloveclub
in the East Village. Her clothing is beautiful, classic, soft to the touch, and crafted from eco-friendly, sustainable materials. Once you know the reality of how conventional clothing manufacturing effects the planet, you can’t un-know it. So I love finding people who are doing it differently, and really admire the hustle it takes to run a small business like this. (Yes, I cropped myself out of the last pic because, I just can’t with the selfies today.)
