In 1951 Jaguar Cars took their maiden win at Le Mans; drivers Peter Whitehead and Peter Walker behind the wheel of their majestic XK120C. At a time when disc brakes were a revolution and carburettors supplied the fuel, these cars could still achieve 150mph.
The soundtrack was intoxicating, Jaguar’s finest straight 6 XK engine at full bore, buttery smooth and powerful, showing a clean pair of heels to fierce competitors from Aston Martin, Lancia and Ferrari.
We doff our cap to these wonderful machines of yesteryear, we admire their ferocity and the intoxicating danger ever present from behind the wheel. The Proteus C-Type, an homage, an evocation, a re-imagination.
Call it what you will, its automotive art but its no museum piece. The speed remains (but more) the power too, a Jaguar XK engine (of course) with that unforgettable soundtrack which electrified the packed grandstands at La Sarthe. Le Mans winning race cars must always have the best so we have added fuel injection, vented disc brakes, state of the art adjustable shock absorbers, supportive bucket seats from the finest leather hide. Still an aerodynamic tour de force, still blisteringly fast on the track yet today we can blend in modern manufacturing techniques for a stiffer, lighter body and chassis, a faster gear shift, combine a comfortable ride with ferocious road holding. We give you a car that invokes the sights and smells of the halcyon days of Le Mans, exquisite in its design detail and peerless in the way it drives. Behold the timeless shape, soak in the traditional craftsmanship but drive it too, to its maximum, and experience what makes the Proteus C-Type a true drivers car.
