〰️Hair Journey Update: Ehhh We’re Getting There 🙈〰️
(Swipe ⬅️) What has felt like an eternity (but really 3 weeks) after my hair was affected by an unsuccessful DIY w/ pure Aloe Vera Juice, it’s still having lots of trouble absorbing moisture. Here is my hair today after clarifying and deep conditioning—dry after two and a half hours (yikes!) Swipe to see how it was right after the failed treatment. ✖️
Looking at the comparison I don’t feel so bad, but my curls have still been hard to manage. They’re dry af even while completely wet in the shower and tangled! They also lose moisture at a rapid rate, so even though they don’t look terrible now, in a few days they’ll be almost brittle. That’s why I’ve been deep conditioning bi-weekly.
A few other methods I’ve tried in order to remove the aloe from my hair or add moisture are:
☑️ Washing w/ a Sulfate Shampoo
☑️ Baking Soda X Apple Cider Vinegar Clarifying Treatment (Thanks @taty_froever
☑️Steaming My Hair with my @qredew
☑️Moisturizing DIYs & Hot Oil Treatments
I do want to say that this experience has provided a break from my extensive washday routine. You know the drill, Curlfriend: pre-poo, wash, condition, deep condition, style (some methods take forever like shingling) & diffuse or air dry. I’ve just been clarifying and deep conditioning and throwing my hair up in a pineapple once dry. I’m really looking forward to the day I am rinsing out my DC and see that my curls are back to their bouncy, healthy & defined form! Who knows when that will be.
Meanwhile, I’ve been trying not to define beauty around my hair. It’s been tough but I know this is temporary and that I am not my hair. •
