Picked up this cute sweater @forever21 yesterday! And I may have gotten a cpl others (see my stories)🤗 ❄️ One of the many things I love about coaching is the ability to work this biz from home or anywhere and earn extra income to afford to treat myself with things like this. If i didn’t have this I’d have to rely solely on my other biz @deevineintentions to cover it or go out and get another job and lose time with my fam. Ive never been down with having to ask Jay for money every time I want a little something for myself. I L❤️ve doing my @ home Mom thing and still having financial independence. That’s just me.
👀 Check out this post that shows the role that calories play in our weight management journeys. Here are two meals with (basically) the same ingredients, varying in quantity, yielding opposite results. This makes total sense. Calorie intake plays a huge role in meeting your weight loss or weight gain goals. This photo illustrates that you don’t have to deprive yourself of good, nutritional food to lose weight. Counting calories is how I lost weight. I wish I had seen this post back then. In 2012, I reduced my calorie intake by removing all starchy carbs. Little did I know that I could still enjoy them, but in moderation, as in this photo. White rice? I gasped at it. There’s not much to it, what you see here is basically it. You can make this one in the time it takes to cook the rice! . . On the weight loss side is a much smaller version of sausage and it is turkey sausage instead of the pork/beef on the weight gain side which makes it much lower in fat and saves a boat load of calories. The rice, beans, and carrots contribute to the majority of the carbs in this meal. I like using sausage because it has a very overpowering flavor that helps to mask the carrots and broccoli. Plus rice, beans, and sausage is an incredible combo. . . On the weight gain side there is about 2x the rice and sausage. As stated earlier, the sausage is a beef/pork sausage instead of turkey. It is a fattier sausage and you can get a lot of flavor in this small dish by using a regular kielbasa sausage instead of turkey. . . Remember peeps, it’s all about calorie balance. Day 1 of the 12 day Countdown to Christmas is almost here. Throughout the countdown I will introduce some functional movements that I utilize in conjunction with my other workout regimes. I get sooooooo many questions regarding how I get certain parts of my body in shape 🍑😉 or in a certain esthetic form, and the answer is consistency, and incorporating functional training. Functional training relates to movements that trigger and train several muscle groups at one time. When you engage in functional training you improve not only strength but coordination, and neuromuscular control. One of the key muscle groups that is triggered in almost all functional movements is the CORE! ➰ Happy Sunday ➰ when I’m not visiting home and/or washing my hair I try workout on a Sunday morning! I always thought it was so hard working out with my fro but gosh is it hard with my braids 🤣 no matter what I do they are just everywhere! I’ve decided to just let them do as they please 🤣❤️
💪 Flashback Friday to Monday's workout because my body is thrashed and todays workout wasn't pretty! #pineapplehair ➰I must have an extremely sweaty head because after a workout there is no refreshing the curls! _➰I don't think washing it 3-4x a week has affected my hair negatively either. And now that the weather is cooler I'm able to co-wash! Co-washing int he summer was a no-go for me! I should say anytime I clarify or use shampoo I make pre-poo first. My schedule in a week looks a little something like this: Clarify Co-wash Shampoo (#cgfriendly ) Co- wash.. That's not necessarily set in stone because most of the time I go by how my hair feels. ➰How do you protect your curls during a workout? ➰Can you get away with refreshing after?
So I’ve noticed that I haven’t posted a full body picture since my birthday in August. This is me, today, 4 months later. . Something that I’ve noticed is that weight sticks to me soooo much quicker. I’ve said this before but NOW, it’s on a whole different level. If I’m active & stay away from bread & sugar, I can manage. So that’s what I’ve been working on. I’ve gained weight evenly (breast, butt, mid section, butt, hips & thighs) and I’m working to get it off. . Health is truly wealth. Get active! Took these photos in October, at that time I felt so uncomfortable taking full body selfies. How can a journey be shared if only the end results are shown? Ahhh the gym... I have so much fun messing around there with my trainers. For those of you who feel intimidated by the gym DON'T! Everyone is there to improve themselves and I actually find it a pretty non judgement environment. Because everyone recognizes what it takes to get up... get there...and work hard. And everyone there respects that. 👍💪
I am a mess today! An absolute emotional disaster! 😭 . The Jingle Bell 5k is an emotional event for me every year but this year felt especially hard. . The Jingle Bell run was the first 5k I ever did. It’s was the catalyst that led to a Disney Race that changed my whole life. This race is where my journey began. 🌲 🎅🏼 🌲 . Every year I am remind of how bad things where. How much I had let myself go. Reminded of all I’ve overcome and the things I still struggle with after all these years. And this year I didn’t want to show up. 🔔 . I cried and cried. I felt so fat. I felt like I didn’t deserve to be there. I felt like I had failed myself. You see just yesterday I was winded going up the stairs. And the last few months have been really hard and I’ve turned to food for comfort in the evening. I’ve gained 10-15 pounds. I’m uncomfortable in my skin. 🤷🏼‍♀️ . I felt like I had failed myself. I felt like I was failing my friend Christina. Today was her big day and here I was worried about myself. Christina has goals to run a Disney 5k. Today was the first milestone in that journey. And I could not be more inspired by her!!!! #likeforreal . So today I ran for Christina. Today I ran for every person who stepped out of their comfort zone and finished their first 5k. Today I ran for that girl that showed up to a race 9 years ago. She was so brave. She worked so hard to overcome her fears and demons. Today I ran a 5k in under 30 minutes. Which blows my mind because I didn’t think I could even walk the whole think in under an hour. . Today I just want to THANK that Tiffany and every other person who was mortified of what could happen and showed up to a race anyways. You are my hero’s!!!! . As I lay here in this very comfy hotel bed I am reflecting on today. And man oh man was it a long day! I left work around 6pm, went home, packed and started a 3.5 hour drive to Philly. . And all I can think is “Thank goodness I choose to wake up early to have some “Tiff Time” before heading to work this morning.” Where would I be right now if I hadn’t started the day off on the right foot? It took a while for me to feel okay with posting pics while I am on this fitness journey. I have 27% body fat and I am working on lowering it, losing weight, gaining muscle and it’s not done with magic. Anything worth having takes hard work and plenty of it. So no my stomach isn’t flat with a 6 pack but it will be and I would feel bad if I only showed the ‘after’ pictures. My confidence and finding I can push myself even further than I imagined grows daily. #Repost @brunettewithbounce • • • • • Confession...I put my fitness before my curls!! . . 💪🏻Almost daily I get a DM asking me how I refresh my curls after I work out. Here's the answer....I DON'T!! . . 💪🏻I either wash or co wash every time I spin. If I can't wash that day, I bun it! I get too damn sweaty when I spin not to wash my hair. I also refuse to do a full wet refresh, because if I am going to put in that much effort, I might as well just wash my hair. . . 💪🏻This means I am smart about when I plan my work outs. I usually spin Mon, Wed, Fri & Sun. Sunday is my deep condition/no product day & I typically will wash 2 or 3 times more that week. I can tell you that washing that often has not had a negative impact on the overall health of my hair. Now, I do try to diffuse less especially when I refresh because that can dry out my curls. Other than that, I dont stress about it because the healthier my body is, the healthier my curls are!! . . 💪🏻Now, that doesn't mean that if I do a lower impact workout I dont refresh because I do. I will pineapple/buff and then see how things look after. The less work I have to do to my curls those days the better!! . . 💪🏻So curlies what are your secrets to working out & still having fabulous curls? Leave your thoughts in my comments!! . . P.S. I’ve been working on this #v3 problem for a few days. If I’m being perfectly honest, I should probably stick to the V0/V1 and work on my technique and strength, but I can’t resist the inverted ones! Do you love avocados 🥑? I hope so. They have amazing benefits. Very great health benefits for your body, skin and hair. I’ve upped my avocado intake in the past year and I’ve seen amazing results with my body, skin and hair. Avocados have good omega fats which we need for our body. I don’t agree with people who say they will make you gain weight. Nope. Avocados have natural fibers in it which helps you digest it nice and easy. So it won’t stick to your body like bad fats. Avocado has Vitamin C for your immune system it an antioxidant. It has Vitamin B-6 helps prevent heart disease and it great for your immune system. For the hair it’s a rich source of proteins and amino acids to strengthen your hair. It’s anti-aging so start making face and hair masks. I incorporate avocados in hair masks, face masks, smoothies and different food recipes. I try to eat at least half an avocado a day. I love guacamole, it’s definitely a guilt free meal. I’m really proud of myself. This is a #V0 problem, and one of the easiest of the sets. Six weeks ago I was seriously struggling to understand the madness of bouldering and to climb to the top really gave me the shivers. In six weeks I’ve managed to make this problem a warm up and a cool down. This week I’ve also been trying to practice more self-esteem tips. I was really hard on myself last week and some old habits flared up quickly. I have body dysmorphia and posting any kind of photo or video where I’m not 100% toned or rail thin makes me beyond hateful towards myself. Envy is my true downfall, and I know there’s enough to go around in the curl community. Climbing has taught me that I can’t compare myself to anyone else. Hard is hard; no one else can define that for you. So accept what your struggles and weaknesses are, but don’t assume you have them because someone else looks like they have it better. Today I brushed AFTER applying products to distribute product more evenly and straighten out the frizzies. My hair reclumped nicely, but it was also pretty plastered to my head after so I have some flat spots that I’m not in love with (even after some root clipping). Applying products is still hard for me. I don’t like having my hair hang forward in my face the way I see most curlies and wavies add product. My front pieces just end up super wacky. Anyone have a trick to share? 🎃scrunched with hands, then T-shirt. 🎃clipped roots, diffused for 10 min, air dried maybe an hour, then diffused to 98% and SOTC with @righteousrootsoils
I LOVE @flavcity low carb recipes. I have yet to be disappointed with the final product. Delicious and SUPER easy! Here is my version of his keto flatbread. ————— Preheat oven to 400F In a large bowl: ✔️Beat 2 eggs. ✔️Add a touch of salt and 1 tsp baking powder & mix well. ✔️Add 1-2 cups finely grated/shredded mozzarella cheese & mix well. ✔️1-1.5 cup almond flour & mix well. ✔️Put some oil on your hands and continue mixing with your hands, then separate the dough in 5 equal balls. ✔️Flatten each dough on non-stick pan. I got too sweaty during my workout to even think about refreshing. I’m starting to really like my co washing days though! I stepped waaaaaaay 😱 outside my comfort zone this week!! I’m a 41 year old woman with acne📍, red skin and a fuzzy 🇮🇹Italian face. Some wouldn’t even think twice about going out in public with a bare face. I wouldn’t even dream of leaving the house 🏠 without my “face on”. 💄Like NEVER. I am SO self conscious about my 🙈skin. So today, I treated myself to a facial because a friend is an esthetician and shared with me just how amazing her fall 🍂pumpkin🍁🎃 facial treatment was. I would have been a fool to pass it up! ➰➿Of course, I would have a good hair day when I get the flu and all I want to do is lay in bed all day!!!!!!!!!! I woke up at 3 am sweating, with the worst headache, unable to fall back asleep, so what else was I to do but take a bath and of course wash my hair. I know, I know I wash my hair too much! I always worry I'm going to send myself into hygral fatigue and today at 3 am I was convinced I had! I went down the Google rabbit hole! Read @curlsandtwirlsfordays three-part series on the subject AGAIN and came across @jannelleoshaughnessy YouTube video (check out my story to see which one and go watch it!) on assessing your hair as you go instead of having a wash day game plan. Anyone else go in with a plan?!? ➿➰I will usually write down the concoction ima experiment with the day before in my notes. It helps me keep track of what I've done (mom brain) Anyway, since I wasn't planning on washing my hair today, I decided to try this whole "do as you go thing..." I'm happy to report my hair just needed a little protein, I think! Cuz check out these wavy • curls!!! Oooh also #straightfacedwomen & #wavesarenotfailedcurls because I'm a multitasker! The tea⬇⬇⬇ . . . . . @nymbrands activated charcoal & purple moonstone restore and reclaim scalp scrub @winsomeandwisdom purple shampoo and super natural conditioner (rinsed all out) @officialkinkycurly Leave In Plopped for ten minutes Airdried for a hour Did a strand test to check if I was in hygral fatigue or if I was over moisturized. It was the latter. So I used @giovannicosmetics La Naturals gel which has soybean seed protein Let it dry some more and decided to #smasterstechnique a tiny bit of @sheamoisture coconut and hibiscus curl enhancing smoothie for good measure (it also has protein) Root clipped here then diffused till dry. I'm surprised I don't have that much frizz but I'm guessing it's because my hair NEEDED the protein. This balance stuff is hard guys

Is cowashing considered a wash day?! Today I cowashed with @asiamnaturally , but I’m DEFINITELY going to wash tomorrow after my workout. It looks pretty good, but it’s feeling a bit greasy. Too much product? I don’t know, but I can’t seem to get past Day 2 without desperately wanting to shampoo my scalp. The cowash just didn’t seem to do it for me as far as feeling “clean”. Or, is this part of the transition and I’ll eventually not feel like a greaseball?

Feeling good about this wash day! Sweaty workouts cause more wash days than CGM recommends, but progress is still happening. 💦washed with DevaCurl low poo. 💦DC (again!) but this time with Shea moisture manuka honey masque. It has protein in it and I thought that would be good...🤷‍♀️. Rinsed well and STC with DevaCurl one condition delight. 💦LOTS of curls blueberry leave in. I did sort of a semi seaweed method. 💦praying hands and scrunched in moptop curl custard and Aussie IF. I plopped, diffused and air dried on and off (a girl’s gotta work too, you know). Then, tried clapping out the crunch! Thank you, @reallifecurlygirl. Um, it worked great. Might be my new go to. #texturetuesday
