➰➿Of course, I would have a good hair day when I get the flu and all I want to do is lay in bed all day!!!!!!!!!! I woke up at 3 am sweating with the worst headache unable to fall back asleep, so what else was I to do but take a bath and of course wash my hair. I know, I know I wash my hair too much! I always worry I'm going to send myself into hygral fatigue and today at 3 am I was convinced I had! I went down the Google rabbit hole! Read @curlsandtwirlsfordays three-part series on the subject AGAIN and came across @jannelleoshaughnessy YouTube video (check out my story to see which one and go watch it!) on assessing your hair as you go instead of having a wash day game plan. Anyone else go in with a plan?!? ➿➰I will usually write down the concoction ima experiment with the day before in my notes. It helps me keep track of what I've done mom brain Anyway, since I wasn't planning on washing my hair today, I decided to try this whole "do as you go thing..." I'm happy to report my hair just needed a little protein... Cuz check out these wavy • curls!!! Oooh also #straightfacedwomen because I'm a multitasker! The tea⬇⬇⬇ . . . . . @nymbrands activated charcoal & purple moonstone restore and reclaim scalp scrub @winsomeandwisdom purple shampoo and #supernatural conditioner (rinsed all out) @officialkinkycurly Leave In Plopped for ten minutes Airdried for a hour Did a strand test to check if I was in hygral fatigue or if I was over moisturized. It was the latter. So I used @giovannicosmetics La Naturals gel which has soybean seed protein Let it dry some more and decided to #smasterstechnique a tiny bit of @sheamoisture coconut and hibiscus curl enhancing smoothie for good measure (it also has protein) Root clipped here then diffused till dry. I'm surprised I don't have that much frizz but I'm guessing it's because my hair NEEDED the protein. This balance stuff is hard guys
If only I was "just" doing this for the gram Haha. No folks as my sweater says this really is my all day every day mom life! Their are four of them and one of me...multitasker is my middle name sadly so is forgetful! 🙋🙋🙋 It's our last day of fall break and I have a laundry list of things I gotta get done this week! Is cowashing considered a wash day?! Today I cowashed with @asiamnaturally , but I’m DEFINITELY going to wash tomorrow after my workout. It looks pretty good, but it’s feeling a bit greasy. Too much product? I don’t know, but I can’t seem to get past Day 2 without desperately wanting to shampoo my scalp. The cowash just didn’t seem to do it for me as far as feeling “clean”. Or, is this part of the transition and I’ll eventually not feel like a greaseball?

Feeling good about this wash day! Sweaty workouts cause more wash days than CGM recommends, but progress is still happening. 💦washed with DevaCurl low poo. 💦DC (again!) but this time with Shea moisture manuka honey masque. It has protein in it and I thought that would be good...🤷‍♀️. Rinsed well and STC with DevaCurl one condition delight. 💦LOTS of curls blueberry leave in. I did sort of a semi seaweed method. 💦praying hands and scrunched in moptop curl custard and Aussie IF. I plopped, diffused and air dried on and off (a girl’s gotta work too, you know). Then, tried clapping out the crunch! Thank you, @reallifecurlygirl. Um, it worked great. Might be my new go to. #texturetuesday

Pin curls, red lips and Mop Top oh my! 💋💋💋💋 There's something about a red lip that makes me feel a certain kinda way. Like I can take on anything the universe throws at me or at least walk into a room with all the confidence. Heels and perfume make me feel this way too! What makes you feel like a million bucks?!! @SheaMoisture Black Jamaican Castor oil mixed with Avocado oil. Used @nymbrands Blue Kale and Coconut water Shampoo and Conditoner @soultanicals Monoi Moisture DC @giovannicosmetics Leave in @moptophair Curly custard @aussiehairusa Instant Freeze I am so proud of myself for only changing one product!!! Which was adding the Mop Top Curly Custard. I still want to play with it a bit more but my initial thoughts?!? Holy definition Batman! It does have glycerin in it which my hair usually hates but I hardly have any frizz! That could also be because of the weather change right? Like maybe my hair likes glycerin in the fall? I used @curlicue_lu Pin curl tutorial for those rocking ringlets in the front. I find it's best to do it when my hair is damp, if my curls are too wet they set weird or are too water logged to hold the curl. I'm trying really hard to let those bitches in the front do their thing...but pin curling is a great option when I have somewhere nice to go! You can find her tutorial in my Curl friends highlight! 😘

Your mind will quit a thousand times before your body will. Feel the fear, and do it anyway! . . . . . I hesitated to post this video because I was so frustrated with my myself yesterday...I wanted to go down in weight because the next weight up is so damn hard for me! My mind was telling me I couldn't do it, my mind was telling me to stop trying and to just bust through the workout with a weight I was comfortable with. Had it not been for my amazing trainer I think I would have!!! But she talked me off the ledge, pushed me to keep going, coached me and I was able to the majority of that workout with 2- 35lb kettlebells!!!!!! Thank you @garagegymdiva for constantly getting be out of my comfort zone and making me do hard sh#$! YOU are a game changer!!!
I thought yesterday was Tuesday so why does today feel like Friday?!?! I'm exhausted! I worked a four-day trip and immediately took a cross-country flight to DC where I spent the next 30 hours talking all things curly girl while people watching in Dupont Circle with @diyraven Now, it's back to reality with a Knotts scary farm field trip, ASB meetings and HoCo this weekend for my high schoolers! So, between that the cross country day trip and the cooler weather I came home to, I think ima stay in my pajamas until next summer. Who's with me?!?! #tiredasamother ⬇⬇⬇ Hair Deets ⬇⬇⬇ . . . . . If you caught my story yesterday you know I tried a green clay mask (bentonite clay) on my hair! And while I like how my hair looks, I'm not sure I like the feel of it. Worth trying it again tho... because hello hair!!! Also, I was trying really hard to only introduce one new thing into my hair routine but when I opened my package from @soultanicals I couldn't resist! I mean I had to DC anyway! ➰➰➰➰ Clarified w/DIY Green Clay Mask (see beauty highlight) @nymbrands Blue Kale Shampoo @soultanicals Monoi Moisture Slip deep conditioner Detangled, left on for one hour, rinsed out all the way and followed up with the Blue Kale conditioner and STC Used @giovannicosmetics Leave in & @aussiehairusa Instant Freeze. Microplopped in car pickup 🙈 Diffused for 10 minutes when I got home and decided I wasn't feeling it. So airdried the rest of the way Sotc with @aghair Glow
Guys, I did a thing.... Haha So, I've been doing some research the last few weeks on the effects flying has on hair and while there is lots of information on the effects it has on your skin and nails there isn't a lot out there on hair. I decided over the next month or so of flying I'm going to be conducting a few experiments of my own and will report what I find! If you have any information on this subject or know someone who does please please please send it my way! #thebarrecodedenver Before & After pics!!! @_stephanie_johanna taught an amazingly INTENSE hot Barre class for me, @curlicue_lu & @frizztocurls 💕 we had SO much fun, and got our butts kicked!! Or at least I got my butt kicked... 🔥💪 . . On a personal note - I've been struggling to find an exercise method that I actually ENJOY and can do regularly without feeling forced to do it. I really liked this Barre class and I'm planning to go back!! My whole body is sore today and I can tell I got a great workout 😄
This is a reminder that I have on my desk. I was recently talking to one of my friends @teedot____ about how hard it was to stay consistent with the gym. She responded that I should put as much effort in the gym as I do with m curls and that stuck with me. Those of you who have curly hair know how difficult this journey is and so it’s the gym. It’s all about staying consistent & trial and error. You won’t feel like going to the gym everyday and that’s ok. I don’t feel like doing my hair everyday either and that’s why sometimes it goes in a bun 🤷🏽‍♀️. So what gives?!?! 🤔🤔🤔 Left was diffused till dry (also using @curlicue_lu pin curl tip on that front piece!.) The right was air dried ( Finger coiled the front piece ala @heytherecurlfriend ) Funny story...I always used to air dry. In fact, I didn't even own a diffuser a few months ago! But somewhere along the line diffusing was life! Part of me thought if I air dried, I wouldn't really have curls and people would think I was a fraud! Haha Reality is, "You can't TRY to be a curly girl, you were born a curly girl." My 14-year-old daughter said that! Well hello there!! Welcome to our #curlieandfit page! My name is Sally aka @hispaneek. I'm 28 (only for like one more week lol) years old. . . ☀ My entire life, and I do mean my entire life, I've been very insecure about my body and struggled with my weight. I was always the chubby one, the one without a slim waist line, without much butt (in my culture big butts have always been welcomed), and the one with "pelo malo" (bad hair). I remember how depressed I got when I reached 120 pounds as a 14 year old. It was roughly around the time of that first picture. . . ☀ As you can see from the collage I've been going up and down in weight ever since I can remember. The irony is that I worked in the front desk of a gym for about 6 years but rarely worked out. I know, I know! What a waste of a free membership! I would go on and off the workout train but never stayed consistent for too long. . . ☀ 2016-2017 was the heaviest I've ever been. Reaching 180 lbs. I'm 5'7 and perhaps that doesn't seem that bad, but it was. I was definetely feeling horrible about myself. . . ☀ For lent this year I gave up a lot of my favorite things to eat and without working out I lost roughly 14 pounds. And as you may guess, once lent was over I started to gain again. It's always been either or for me. Either I was on a really strict diet and didn't work out or would work out but wouldn't pay attention to what I ate. I would lose more weight in the first option but I love food so those diets never lasted long. . . ☀ My hair journey started when chunks of my hair broke due to chemical processes in late 2016, then on April 2017 I decided to go natural and big chopped later that year. . . ☀ Now without the excuse of "can't mess up my straight hair with them #SallySweats " (even though curly hair is a whole other story lol) and with the amazing group of curlies I've encountered here I am ready to get on that fitness train and stay on it! It's actually amazing how much sauerkraut can help with a low carb / paleo / keto diet. I eat this as a snack so I have an extra "meal" throughout the day. And it's zero calories. Sometimes it can be difficult to get vitamin C unless you're eating fruit, but this provides a lower carb way! Any lacto-fermented vegetable can aid in digestion, provide extra nutrients, and help digest meats or other foods.

This is the story of a curl! ➰➿🙋🙋👌🎶🎵 . . . . . First: Halo Choker is @jaysandjewels 😍😍😍 Now the Tea: I used @winsomeandwisdom Moisturizing Shampoo & Conditioner for Curly Hair. Detangled/added a little more conditioner to my ends to STC and left it all in! On soaking wet hair, I added @officialkinkycurly leave in & used a wet brush to distribute. Then I tried @mymanecurls wet brush technique to form clumps and shake the curl in place.(Check out her videos!) I added Define Yourself Styling Balm also from Winsome and wisdom And finished with @aussiehairusa AIF before getting dressed. Air dried while I made the best protein coffee ever...check out my kitchn highlight Then root clipped and pin curl clipped my wonky front piece like @curlicue_lu shows in her video and Diffused using @thecurlyco for 10 minutes. With praying hands added W&W A Muse Me Volumizing Mousse Put my make-up on and diffused for another 10 minutes. Added more mousse (praying hands) and put some on top of my head where I was seeing a little frizz. Flipped my hair upside down and diffused the rest of the way. I used @aghair Glow serum to SOTC.  Really smoothing that front curl because woah Shirley!!! Overall impression... Great hair day who dis?!?! Haha Product Review: ✔✔✔✔✔ The shampoo lathers. The conditioner has Ah-mazing slip! The Cream is light but definitely has hold.  And the mousse is volumizing! All the products smell great without being overpowering and sadly I'm in love! See, I really wanted to hate the curly line, not going to lie. Because it is a little spendy I got it all on sale but would pay full price for it hands down. They also have a silicone free purple shampoo I've used and loved! FYI If you're still reading you're the real MVP!!!!!
✨ Mondays can be rough for many. Sometimes it’s hard to find a little motivation to get the week started right. I hope this post will help 💪🏽. ➰ Sharing these videos to show that we all have strengths and weaknesses. I’m fortunate enough that I can still get up and exercise. So I take advance of that. I’ve been practicing this STRONG by Zumba warmup and Quadrant 1 #8 for the last 4 Sunday’s with my #StrongTeam @yes2fit @zumbasanabria @jdalessio82. My form, my core, my upper body strength and balance all need more work. But I’m inspired by my C-Fit team and my @curlieandfit crew to always push myself. ➰ We were born PERFECT. We see ourselves as imperfect because of insecurities fueled by harsh and unrealistic societal norms. I have a gut, thick thighs, weak arms, etc. etc. That’s OKAY!!! This is true about our hair too. My hair is perfect for ME. ➰ My motivational thought is this... If you want to work on or change something about yourself then DO IT. Sunday Confession...I put my fitness before my curls!! . . 💪🏻Almost daily I get a DM asking me how I refresh my curls after I work out. Here's the answer....I DON'T!! . . 💪🏻I either wash or co wash every time I spin. If I can't wash that day, I bun it! I get too damn sweaty when I spin not to wash my hair. I also refuse to do a full wet refresh, because if I am going to put in that much effort, I might as well just wash my hair. . . 💪🏻This means I am smart about when I plan my work outs. I usually spin Mon, Wed, Fri & Sun. Sunday is my deep condition/no product day & I typically will wash 2 or 3 times more that week. I can tell you that washing that often has not had a negative impact on the overall health of my hair. Now, I do try to diffuse less especially when I refresh because that can dry out my curls. Other than that, I dont stress about it because the healthier my body is, the healthier my curls are!! . . 💪🏻Now, that doesn't mean that if I do a lower impact workout I dont refresh because I do. I will pineapple/buff and then see how things look after. The less work I have to do to my curls those days the better!! . . 💪🏻So curlies what are your secrets to working out & still having fabulous curls? Leave your thoughts in my comments!! . . P.S. No rest even on the weekends!! Recommitted to my fitness goals two weeks ago and already seeing progress. Muscle memory is an amazing thing. . . 🚴‍♀️4 spin classes per week 🚶‍♀️1 to 2 two mile walks per week 🧘‍♀️20 min. home workouts 6/week 🥦Making good food choices (no crazy diets) . . And for those of you that always ask, I have not found a way to preserve my curls when I spin. I wash 3 to 4 times per week. Hoy les quería compartir mi historia detrás mis entrenamientos. . En el 2014 yo estaba comiendo muy desbalanceado, (como siempre) y como siempre fui flaca no me preocupaba por mi alimentación y no tenia idea de lo que era el ejercicio, en ese entonces tenia 22 años y cuando me vi al espejo me dije a mi misma, “ohh fuck” que gorda estoy, eres joven, no tienes hijos que sera de ti a los 30? Y fue cuando dije voy a hacer un cambio, y fue ahi cuando tome mi celular y empece a buscar todo tipo de información para bajar de peso y como alimentarme. Y por consecuente me inscribí al gym (sola) dije porque si voy con una amiga cuando ella no quiera ir pues yo tampoco. Desde entonces comencé a entrenar hice un déficit calórico extremo que en dos meses ya estaba super flaca, perdí mucha masa muscular, cero nalgas, cero piernas y parecía enferma, no porque comía mal sino por el déficit calórico mal distribuido y era muy restrictiva con mis comidas, luego recibí muchas críticas por mi peso y me sentía mal pues porque estaba demasiado flaca (como quiera es malo) , y fue entonces cuando dije necesito una dieta pero balanceada, y así lo hice, hoy soy feliz, como lo que quiero siempre y cuando no me exceda, y trato de comer lo mas saludable que puedo pero si me tengo que comer mis comiditas chatarra 🍔🍟 me las como sin miedo! Tengo unas celulitis que ya no me queda de otra que aceptarlas y quererlas, aveces se me salen unos chichos, que ya son parte de mi, y hay días que me da pereza y no quiero ir a entrenar pero aquí estamos, ya llevo 4 años en este estilo de vida, todo con determinación, esfuerzo y constancia se puede lograr! Sino díganmelo a mi! 💪🏼. Y tu cuantas mas excusas te vas a inventar para no hacer un cambio en tu vida??

I used to skip workouts cus I didn’t want to mess up my hair... who else has? ⠀ So Today my IG Live discussed how to save your curls during your workouts so you can get rid of that excuse too! ⠀ 1️⃣ Wear your silk/satin bonnet while you workout ... less frizz from jumping and movement. ⠀ 2️⃣ Pineapple your curls and wrap them up in a scarf... again less frizz from jumping and movement. PLUS if the scarf is tight on your edges it will soak up sweat 👌🏽. ⠀ 3️⃣ Dry shampoo... if you really can’t stand the feeling of sweat in your hair send me a message, I have a dry shampoo you need! After your workout, part your curls in a few areas, spray each with dry shampoo and do a quick blast with the blowdryer... you’ll thank me later 😀. ⠀ Do you have tips for saving your curls after a workout?
