Cutlery roll – to reduce my dependence on single-use forks 🍴, spoons 🥄 , straws, and chopsticks 🥢 (my guilty convenience) when I’m out at a hawker or eating-in where they only provide single-use. As I was making this, I thought of how parents bring baby spoons and children’s cutlery with them when they dine out. Sometimes it’s a hygiene concern, and sometimes adult cutlery is too big for kids. Either way, why shouldn’t we do the same for ourselves to cut down on the things we use once and throw?
Convenience is my main reason when I give in and use a disposable. I’ve realised it’s more that I’m not prepared. If I have these, it’s really easy to grab and go, don’t you think? ❤️
I was thinking about what sort of fabric to use in making this. In a conversation with a friend (@thaoashcroft
), I remembered I have some leftover polycotton from when I had no idea about fabric construction. I hardly use polycotton because it doesn’t feel nice to the touch and isn’t breathable. For this purpose though, it’s great. Polycotton is easy to wash and tends not to trap stains (that’s why many restaurant uniforms are polycotton). This cutlery roll has a 100% Japanese floral cotton exterior (print is prettier and it feel nice to the touch), and a pink polka dot interior so the part that gets dirty can be washed easily). Wraps with a ribbon tie.
