Its Christmas time, a time to give a little back. To have a look at what you have, what you want and what you actually need. The world needs a little bit more love.
This is Kevin, he has a whole lotta love to give and deserves a whole lotta love back.
Kevin is eight years old, he lives in Bogota, Columbia and for Christmas, he'd like to learn how to walk. This is big ask. It's going to take some hectic operations, a bunch of rehab, probably some tears and he is going to need a lot of help. He was born with cerebral palsy and most of his deficiencies are motor skill based, not mental. So we have this bright, sparkly and wonderful little guy stuck in a wheelchair.
Lucky for Kevin, he has really good friends around him. But he also has a special friend. Maybe you know him? His name is Esteban Chaves, he is a professional cyclist and also an all round super guy. Esteban runs a foundation in Columbia that helps disadvantaged kids. There is also Kevin, who calls the foundation home.
Esteban has himself been at the pointy end of a surgeon's scalpel. A horrific accident in 2013 left him with injuries so serious that he was told his dreams of continuing his cycling career were over.
Enter Dr Julio Sandoval, a 10 hour surgery, 12 months of rehab and the promise to not give up and Esteban was back on the bike and on the podium. Dr Sandoval has agreed to perform the surgeries Pro Bono. As Esteban says "it's time to give something back". This Christmas, they have set up a crowd funding program to help this little rat bag realise his dreams of being able to walk and by next Christmas, who knows... he might even be able to ride a bike!
Part of the crowd funding will also help to create a specialist movement facility to help with the planning of the surgeries and rehabilitation.
