A simple Rice Kheer or Akki Payasa, that managed to satisfy my sweet tooth. Topped with dry fruits 😍
Now, I used brown rice & jaggery to make this kheer. Does that make it healthy and a guilt-free dessert? 😀
Recipe for those interested to try:
A bowl of freshly cooked or leftover boiled rice (brown rice)
Liquid jaggery, according to taste (I prefer melting jaggery and then passing that through a sieve, just so that I can arrest impurities getting into the sweet dish)
Half a litre milk
Saffron strands & roasted dry fruits for garnishing
A tsp of cardamom powder for flavor
In a saucepan, heat the milk and let it boil.
Simmer and add the cooked rice and jaggery syrup together
Stir and let this simmer and thicken
Add cardamom powder and stir.
Add saffron strands and let this simmer.
When the kheer thickens, switch off the stove.
Transfer into bowls or dishes of your choice and garnish with saffron strands and dry fruits.
