Yup it’s another Acadia shot and of course it’s a sunrise. Anyone who knows me even a little has probably witnessed my sunrise obsession in one way or another. Whether it’s a quick ride down the shore for a classic NJ sunrise on the beach, a 3am wake up for the nation’s first sunrise or casually volunteering to drive friends to the airport to JUST for the view, there really is no better way to start my day! You may be wondering why any sane person would wake up that early just to see the sky looking all pretty. Why not wait for a sunset, right? Wong. My favorite color of all time is orange. Not like the fruit orange, not like rust orange, not tangerine or pumpkin patch and definitely not SUNSET ORANGE!! (too aggressive? Maybe.) Sunset orange is too pink, too purple, too yellow and for us east coast city folk— always blocked by something. Though even between buildings and through power lines those cotton candy skies are stunning, it’s just not my FAVORITE orange. I live for the deep orange that just starts to peek out as the sky goes from black to blue. I prefer the orange that says hello and not goodbye.
I’d say the best-worst part of a sunrise is the anticipation—the half hour or so of waiting, setting up cameras, shivering, dozing off and questioning why you even got out of bed. You could leave disappointed but you may walk away having seen the view of a life time!
Are you ready for the cliché? Don’t worry! I’m not going to dish about how sunrises are a symbol of a fresh start and new beginnings. I WILL point out the similarities between waiting for a sunrise and waiting for those new opportunities to materialize. No matter the end result, how you handle that waiting period can alter how you move forward. Did you spend that wait toying with your camera and practice or learn a few things? Maybe you bonded with a fellow sunrise chaser and made a new friend. Or maybe to chose to take a nap in the car and missed it completely? My soap box for the day: use your wait wisely! Waiting on a job opportunity, finishing a program or just need a change? That “in between” time can be your most valuable asset if play it right!! .

Always digging that SoCal mountain sunset.
The Subway in Zion National Park, from the top down, has long been on my to do list. This amazing hike was quite challenging but worth the shot!
Sunrise Mountain is New Jersey's second-highest peak at 1653 ft, and one of many high peaks that lie along Kittatinny Ridge. This is the view just beside the Civilian Conservation Corps pavilion near the peak. It offers a spectacular look at the Wallkill Valley. Turning in the opposite direction will provide an equally-spectacular view of the Poconos.
Another little gem from the film roll. 💎✨
