It is with a very heavy heart that we bring you the news of America’s passing. We received his critical update this morning from the stellar veterinary team at Blue Pearl. “America is in dire straits. He does not have an operable problem. He has zero muscle mass left and severe atrophy. He will not improve.” Their best guess is that he’s been dragging himself like that “for weeks” And he was infested with maggots and despite excellent care, he’s truly suffering. Humane euthanasia was the best course of action.
The tragic part of this story is that he had been like this “for weeks” And if somebody had called sooner, he would have been saved. He was literally dragging himself around for close to a month. Dragging his back paralyzed legs with his front paws.
Little Wanderers received the request at 10:30am, yesterday and by noon, @miriarte1
one of our amazing volunteers, was there and he was immediately admitted to the ICU. Immediately. We didn’t even question it. We just did it.
Help came too late for America but we sure did try buddy. We sure did. People, if you see an animal in distress, don’t assume anybody did a thing. Trust no one. America suffered unimaginable pain for close to a month. Before we rescued him, he had a milk crate over him, in the RAIN, for three days (albeit it was for catching purposes only-still it was tragic because nobody came to America’s aid). Yes, it’s as bad as that. RIP America. We stopped at nothing to save you. #restinpeace #deathisagift #deathishere #wetried
