HOW TO GET ABS by @all_gym.lovers 😱 🤔Although it can be said that “abs are made in the kitchen”, and yes, diet is the main factor, if you really want your abs to POP, you’re going to have to train them like you would any other muscle. The main abdominal muscles are the external(EO) and internal obliques & the transverse and rectus abdominis💪 . 🔥The rectus abdominis (RA) is what we know as the “6 pack muscle”. It mainly acts to flex the trunk and tilt the pelvis posteriorly as well as helping to rotate the trunk & increase intra-abdominal pressure. So really, to train this muscle we need to load these actions. It’s common belief that compound movements are essential to building abs, but this is far from the truth. Although compound movements should be included to increase core stability, they merely rely on isometric contraction of the abdominal musculature🤔 . 🤙Aspe et al. (2014) compared the EMG activity of the RA and EO through various exercises and found that a simple sit up had more than twice the activation than a back squat. Further research, by Moraes et al. (2009), found weighted crunches to elicit highest activation in the abdominal musculature, with higher loads of course leading to greater activation🏋️ . 📌In terms of diet, a slow to moderate consistent caloric deficit, is what’s really going to aid in adherence and finally make those abs “pop”. I trained every single day for 3 weeks, and while I did build a little muscle, at the end of it all, I felt way too fatigued, I was always tired, and it was just too unsustainable to keep going forward. I took another 3 weeks off from the gym before I went back. - While the motivation to go to the gym constantly is a good thing, it's also a good thing to get proper rest. If you're not getting enough rest throughout the week, it's gonna be harder for you to build muscle over time. - This is why training splits vardeying from 3-6 days a week are great, you still get to go to the gym and make gains while getting the proper rest you need. FULL BODY SPLIT🏋️ 🔥The final split in my 3-part series is the Full Body split. I feel I may get a lot of confused comments on this one so please read the full caption before commenting. A Full Body split is the most optimal way to train IF you can only go gym 3 times per week, which I know a lot of people only can. If you can go 4 or 5 times a week I’d recommend some variation of an upper/lower or push/pull/legs split🤙 . 🤔However, Full Body training can still be very useful, especially for beginners to intermediates. Advanced lifters may struggle in hitting their MEV, using this split, but for a beginner this shouldn’t be a problem. As well as this, the split can be great for developing strength. The principle of specificity simply states that to get better at a given task, you must perform that task. As obvious as it sounds, this can have great implications in strength increases (Wilson et al., 1996). A full body split normally leads to you performing some form of squat, bench and deadlift 3 times a week, thus aiding in strength development💪 . 🔬Finally, if you have some concerns with training volume of certain muscle groups (particularly arms and delts), they are activated quite a lot in most compounds, with EMG data verifying this (Saeterbakken et al., 2017, Youdas et al., 2010). This split also allows for an extra isolation day of arms and delts if needs be, with most people training Monday, Wednesday and Friday on this split. This helps you achieve a calorie deficit without cutting your calorie intake as much. But the scientific literature has clearly established an interference effect of cardio on strength training. If you do cardio too much, it can impact your recovery and performance. Also, if you do it at the wrong times, it can have an even greater negative effect. . . In order to prevent this, you should do cardio when it is least likely to impact strength training. Otherwise, it will result in less muscle building/more muscle loss and less fat loss. If your primary goals are fat loss/toning, don't do cardio immediately before lifting weights. Clearly, you will be fatigued for strength training. You also should not do high-intensity interval training (HIIT) the day before a leg day, but a low-intensity cardio would be fine. . . It is best to separate cardio and lifting weights as much as possible. Ideally, that would be doing cardio on a rest day or on the same day as lifting weights but separated by at least 6 hours along with some food in between. Realistically, most people will exercise 1 time in a day and can just do cardio immediately after lifting weights. . . Structure is your friend.
