Australia's Dinosaur Trail, Outback QLD.
After departing Mt. Isa, we ventured east, driving through Conclurry and Julia Creek before we reached the town of Richmond - the start of the "Dinosaur Trail."
The Dinosaur Trail is a Queensland tourism initiative, encompassing the outback towns of Richmond, Winton and Hughenden which all have their own unique fossils to show off and dinosaur stories to tell.
Who doesn't love a bit of Dinosaur action! It certainly made the journey through the outback a bit more exciting.
A highlight was searching for fossils at Richmond's fossil hunting site. Formed over 100 million years ago when the Richmond area was covered by a shallow inland sea, there are now an abundance of fossils to be found here!
We also liked Hughenden, where we met "Hughie", a skeletal Muttaburrasaurus at The Flinders Discovery Centre. For a refreshment stop, the quirky FJ Holden & Elvis Cafe across the road did the job.
Finally we finished off this part of region with Porcupine Gorge National Park, where you can peer down through 500 million years of history carved out through the layers of rock by the mighty Flinders River.
Now onwards towards Queensland's famous tropical Cassowary coast!
