When I first started my own business a few years ago, I knew it wasn’t going to be easy, but I was ready to work for it.. You see, I grew up in a family owned business, and have worked in many small family owned businesses, so I knew the hard work and dedication required, the long hours, the importance of customer service, the staffing & cashflow management and the surprise overheads…. I knew all of that.
But the part I quickly realised I didn’t know was how I could utilise Social Media for the good of my business - how I could get myself seen by the right people in the gigantic ocean that is social media, and most importantly, how I could work smarter, not harder?
So I did what I knew; 👉 I ‘advertised/spammed’ on my timeline and sent messages to everyone I knew about my new business and products. 👉 I set up a facebook business page, dabbled in paid advertising, fumbled my way through setting up my own website and started blogging. 👉 I set up accounts on instagram, linkedIn, pinterest & twitter. 👉 I spent hours and hours scrolling timelines across the platforms, justified as ‘work’, looking ‘busy’ - with zero productivity and surprisingly, few results #crickets
And although I knew others were successfully utilising social media for their businesses, I didn’t know what it was they were doing differently, but man I was determined to find out!
So I dug in and did some of my own research and eventually came across the concept of ‘Attraction Marketing’ and knew this was the piece of the puzzle I was missing and it made so much sense to me!
At first, I thought Attraction Marketing sounded like some new fancy buzz word or current trend, but after taking the time to learn and implement the techniques, it’s actually about getting back to basics, old school relationship building and customer service within your community - aligned with your own true self, values and timeframes.
It taught me to re-connect with like minded people, to give ultimate value and to build great relationships with new people to inspire and be inspired by. Most importantly, it gave me a customised action plan to implement daily - which keeps me productive, accountable, growing const
