"We must get a Rottweiler" screamed my lil brother. "No. A German Shepard is a better guard dog" quipped my dad.
But I was insistent "My friend has a really ferocious lab and I'm confident that would be the right choice for the first pet for this house!"
Being the apple of everyone's eye and a world class 'arguer', I won the discussion. An adorable golden lab puppy named "Mocha" is what we got to guard our huge bungalow.
Little did we know we had adopted Lord Move-Not! I still remember the only way Kishi guard uncle would get him to exercise everyday was by carrying him to the end of the street and leaving him there and then running back home without him in hope that the lazy pup would follow him back home.
A trainer was hired to unsuccessfully train him to attack at request. The trainer spent most of his time trying to get Mocha to stop shoving his furry head in the bushes and his bottom out while pooping. A silly thing the pooch did to seek privacy when doing the deed. "Atleast he will keep the mice away" I meekly tried to convince.. looking at his humungous yet ever growing waistline. Just to prove my point, one day face to face, was Mocha and a teeny tiny mouse. Probably the size of the dog's nose. We all cheered "Mocha ATTAAAAACCCKKKKK!" And for the first time we saw Mocha move like the wind. He took on a Kung fu tiger like pose and with great momentum he jumped in the air. Our hearts swelled with pride that he would finally go for the kill. We all held our breath. But Mr. Mocha paused mid air as if holding his skirt up and jumped onto the sofa... yellllllping in fear of the tiny mouse!
That's when we gave up and brought home his brothers Figo (A Loyal German Shepard) and Joey (A nutty Boxer) to protect our house.
Lord Mocha remained home happy to have transferred the guard dog hat to the new entrants. He spent his time eating and sleeping and eating some more and sleeping some more. He was thrilled with his new stress free life. Strangely he outlived his brothers.. it's been little less than 3 years since he went..
May he forever be cool and continue to REST in peace! #dogsofinstagram #dog #dogs #dogstagram #labrador #labradorretriever #sunglasses
