@TrailsAndBears is a one-woman project based in Alberta. The operation is run and founded by Rachael Rodgers. Rachael volunteers at nine or ten rescue shelters, where she finds her dogs... or more accurately, her dogs find her. Sometimes, the rescues ask her to take a certain dog who has been there for a while. Other times, foster parents bring their foster dog to Rachael so she can capture their little adventure. “Sometimes,” she writes, “I have to meet all the pups and make the impossible decision myself.”
She started this project because she wanted to shed light on those who cannot speak for themselves; she wanted to help dogs find their forever homes using her art- photography. When I asked her how she captured each dog’s unique personality, she wrote “...You just have to communicate with the dog and pay attention when they answer.” The project has grown affective. Rachael has helped many pups find their forever homes by photographing them on adventures. Her favorite thing about taking these adoptable dogs out to see the world outside of a shelter is knowing they will have a progressively better chance find a forever home.
“For animals in shelters, social media exposure can be the golden ticket to the perfect home.” Rachael has proven this throughout time by helping the voiceless find their homes.
