After a day of bike riding along the voie verte, I found the most beautiful towns to be too out of reach on two wheels. So I booked in a tour to hop through 4 of the most iconic towns of the Périgord/Dordogne region. Domme, La Roque Gajeac, Castelnaud, Beynac. No wonder they are said to be one of the prettiest villages in France! The medieval castles were so well preserved, often on the hilltop with an the entire view of the Dordogne or perching at the edge of cliffs 😍😍😍. Rows and rows of walnuts trees line the valley and the occasional hot air balloon through the sky. We took a boat ride along the river to look at the different villages dotted along the Dordogne and I can only imagine how amazing it would be if I rented one of these kayaks (there's always next time hehe)
I used Sarlat as my base as it has direct trains to Bordeaux, and is the most populated town in the region. Omg the markets here are my dream. On Saturdays, rows and rows of fromage, saucisson, foie gras, fruits and vegetables, pain, all line the main square. On Sundays the vintage market features solid silver spoon and expensive champagne glasses, artwork, furniture, antiques. Omg both the weekend markets here is my Tai Tai dream ok.
My mum asked me. How did you find this place? Well, I flipped through a Lonely Planet book and landed on the Dordogne page. I've truly fallen in love with the French countryside and omg I can't believe I'm leaving my last French village for this trip 😭 For now I'm hitching a ride to Toulouse in my Airbnb mum's car.
