Elijah and Crumpet (and Blossom, our old Siamese cat) learning to count.
⚡️Flashback⚡️ Elijah feeding Crumpet a pretend banana a few years ago. He does appear to be needing an energy boost (maybe a helping hand😂)(sorry, couldn’t resist).
It's only an extra chromosome!!👍🏼♥️
The term trisomy is used to describe the presence of three chromosomes, rather than the usual matched pair of chromosomes.
Down syndrome is a chromosomal condition that occurs when an individual has a partial or complete extra copy of chromosome 21 and is associated with intellectual disability, a characteristic facial appearance, and weak muscle tone (hypotonia) in infancy. All affected individuals experience cognitive delays, but the intellectual disability is usually mild to moderate.
Children with Down syndrome can usually do most things that any young child can do, such as walking, talking, dressing, and being toilet trained. However, they generally do these things later than other children.
The degree of intellectual disability that accompanies the syndrome varies widely and ranges from mild to moderate to severe. Most falls within the mild to moderate range and they can live a totally independent life, make relationships, and work regularly.
Individuals with Down syndrome have an increased risk of developing several medical conditions. These include gastroesophageal reflux, which is a backflow of acidic stomach contents into the esophagus, and celiac disease, which is an intolerance of a wheat protein called gluten.
They often experience a gradual decline in thinking ability (cognition) as they age, but this usually starts at around age 50!
Elijah and Crumpet go back a long way! Here they are reading together. They’re still both as cute! 🧡💛💙❤️ I remember he used to look at Crumpet, then look at the persons talking, then back at Crumpet, wondering where the voice was coming from. Those were the days LOL. (Now he thinks he knows who it is! 🐵)
In every cell in the human body there is a nucleus, where genetic material is stored in genes. Genes carry the codes responsible for all of our inherited traits and are grouped along rod-like structures called chromosomes. Typically, the nucleus of each cell contains 23 pairs of chromosomes, half of which are inherited from each parent. Down syndrome occurs when an individual has a full or partial extra copy of chromosome 21.
This additional genetic material alters the course of development and causes the characteristics associated with Down syndrome. A few of the common physical traits of Down syndrome are low muscle tone, small stature, an upward slant to the eyes, and a single deep crease across the center of the palm – although each person with Down syndrome is a unique individual and may possess these characteristics to different degrees, or not at all.
Over a 100 thousand cases diagnosed annually in Nigeria.
It can last for years or a lifetime.

🐵New show about to release. 🐵Just a short fun one about Bouncy the Balloon Monkey feeling a bit ‘flat’. 🐵Luckily Doctor Elijah and Doctor Crumpet were here to do their Doctor stuff. See YouTube soon (link in profile). Crumpet 🧡🐵😀💛💙☀️🇦🇺
I went to teacher conference this week for Miles. The teacher was reading her snippet about Miles and how he's doing. She started crying. 😭😭 She just pores out love for him. She says he's caring, humorous, and thoughtful and that he's shown much progress!
He's grown socially. He has real friends. He likes to play tether ball with others during recess and had learned how to follow the social rules while playing.
He is just so happy there.
Dr. Stein talks alot about the respond but don't react. I feel like this is contributing to his success this year. He's not getting reprimanded, big reactions to his undesired behaviors, and there's no power struggles. As he's getting more comfortable, and confident within himself he is just going to accomplish so much more this year. Yay!

Can’t beat a man in the kitchen washing dishes, well, maybe only if he cooks breakfast and then washes the dishes!
Elijah’s job (recently taken off his big brother, who acted like he had just won the lottery 🙃) is to empty the dishwasher. He know where everything goes and it’s a great help while at the same time teaching him some valuable life skills.

You know the best thing to get you out of bed at 6 a.m. on a Saturday morning ... the sound of kitchen cupboards opening and closing. 😱
Race out to the crime scene and, phew 😅 today we learned the lessons from last week and the porridge oats are still in the measuring cup.
Elijah loves to help out in the kitchen. We have always encouraged him to pull up a chair, stand and help us prepare food. He’s such a capable learner if you take the time to go through the steps. We go through the recipe instructions and I get him to ‘teach’ me. (#dadneedshelpcooking
