One of my favorite pieces. It called to me the moment I caught a glimpse of it across the park. It was impossible for me to take a good picture of the whole thing. The mirrored panels appeared and disappeared from view/perception, even after I entered the “clearing.” #emtavthedestroyer

"What the #canopy shows really beautifully is that it deepens the blue light of the sky" –Tom Carruthers + Jennifer Newsom, of @dreamthecombine. . In their winning @momaps1 #installation design, they used our E Screen roller #shades fabric to create a series of canopies. . The design duo was inspired by an Ad Reinhardt painting, which "teaches that #blackisacolor + if you spend time with it, the kind of color emerges from the surface... the CANOPY is a CANVAS for a painting that's happening every time you spend time on the hammock + look through it to the sky above." . We’re PROUD to SUPPORT #momaps1 + @themuseumofmodernart 's Young Architects Program! It’s your last weekend to experience the #designers ’ “Hide + Seek” world. #FluentinDesign #solarcontrol #shadesolutions #dreamthecombine #youngarchitects #momayoungarchitectsprogram #architecture

MUSEUMS: Infinite Reflections in a Kinetic Environment | Time is winding down quickly to enjoy this year’s MoMA/PS1 Young Architects Program installation. The winner of the 2018 program is Dream the Combine, the Minneapolis-based architecture duo of Jennifer Newsom and Tom Carruthers. The installation “Hide & Seek” is a responsive, kinetic environment featuring intersecting elements and paired mirrors creating infinite reflections arrayed across the MoMA PS1 courtyard. "Hide & Seek" is on view at MoMA PS1 through September 3, 2018.⠀ —⠀ 🎥: via @MoMAPS1#DailyPlinth #YoungArchitectsProgram #DreamTheCombine #HideandSeek #MoMa #PS1

One of my favorite parts of @momaps1 is its annual Young Architects Program, where the winners of the design competition create a space in the museum’s courtyard for the public to engage with and explore. This year, Jennifer Newsom and Tom Carruthers of Dream the Combine created a space with a large runway and hammock for viewers to either strut down or chill out in. Their installation was inspired by “the crowd, the street, and the city”. The mirrors move when the wind blows or when they are touched in order to make it a responsive kinetic installation. The installation is on view through September 3rd.

Yale alumni couple win Young Architects Competition at MoMA PS1 . Creative partners Jennifer Newsom ’01 BA, ’05 M.Arch. and Tom Carruthers ’05 M.Arch. of the Minneapolis-based firm @DreamTheCombine won this year’s PS1 Young Architects Program Competition at MoMA PS1 in Queens. . The installation is called “Hide & Seek,” the outdoor environment they conceived and constructed with long-time collaborator Clayton Binkley (’99 B.A.) of ARUP and current Yale School of Architecture students, changes from day to night and moment to moment. Giant hanging mirrors, an expansive metal hammock, an elevated runway, and overhead mist and lights both reflect and distort the urban setting and the people inhabiting it. . “Hide & Seek” is on display until Sept. 3 at MoMA PS1, 22-25 Jackson Ave., Long Island City, Queens. Find more details at the MoMA website. . #Yale (Photos: @dreamthecombine ) @yalearchitecture #momaps1 #yalearchitecture #yalealumni #art #museums #kineticsculpture #kineticart #dreamthecombine

If you’re looking for a fun selfie opportunity, then stop by @momaps1 to see this year’s winner of the Young Architects Program. Yesterday, our resident #artnerd @laurencsglazer got to engage with an installation that lets you strut down a mirrored runaway and chill out in a giant hammock. Make sure to check out “Hide & Seek” by Jennifer Newsom and Tom Carruthers of Dream The Combine before it closes on September 3rd!

Today’s selection from the Dream The Combine Bookcase is “How to Fly a Horse: The Secret History of Creation, Invention, and Discovery”. Technology pioneer Kevin Ashton writes in his book about creative inspiration, and how hard work, rather than genius, is the truest source of creative inspiration. Smart cities might be the future, but this art exhibit wants to change how we experience urban environments here and now. This summer at the Museum of Modern Art, design firm Dream The Combine explores Human-City dynamics with its architecture-inspired take-over of the museum’s courtyard. Rotating mirrors reveal the city outside, while interactive installations encourage guests to mingle with their fellow urban warriors. While the photo-friendly project lures visitors, the use of mixed perspectives encourages people to confront their city in new ways, right now. . . . #YAP2018 #MoMAps1 #DreamTheCombine #youngarchitectsprogram #MoMA #nycmuseum #urbanenvironment #architecture #hyperallergic #artsy #summerinthecity #installationart #contemporaryart #modernart #monumentalart
I had the privilege of visiting MoMA PS1’s Young Architects Program 2018: Hide & Seek by Dream the Combine as a TA for NYIT’s Pre-College Summer Program, “Exploring Architecture in Manhattan.” It was a wonderful and surreal installation to walk through and really helped the students understand their project on view-finders using mirrors. If you haven’t gone to see it yet you definitely should, it’s on display until September 3rd! #momaps1 #dreamthecombine #youngarchitectsprogram #youngarchitect #summer18 #queens #installationart #installations #installation #hideandseek #mirror #interactive #surreal #trippy #movement #architecture #design #photography #nyit

David Adjaye is one of the most celebrated contemporary architects alive. These two books survey and study his career and influences: the first being an exhibition catalogue from a 2016 show at the Art Institute of Chicago, and the latter being a series of photographs, interviews, and more published with the completion of the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC. The two books give a glimpse into the mind of Adjaye—welcoming the reader into his sketches, renderings, and more. • #YAP2018 #dreamthecombine #davidadjaye
The “Gordon Parks: Collected Works - Study Edition” surveys 50 years of Gordon Parks’ photography. Parks was a self-taught photographer, using the camera as a weapon against poverty, racism, and “all sorts of social wrongs.” This anthology compiles his photographic approach to activism through both his freelance and personal photography. View this title and many more selected for the Dream The Combine Bookcase, now in the Bookstore! • #yap2018 #dreamthecombine #gordonparks

Minnesota studio @dreamthecombine has constructed a series of black steel frames that accommodate net hammocks, mirrors and misters, that fill the @momaps1 courtyard. Hide & Seek is the winning design in this year's Young Architects Program, run annually by the museum in Queens, New York.
