📣REVIEW: Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum*📣
📎Drunk Elephant is one of my favourite skincare brands. Their entire product range is fragrance free and also free from the suspicious six(silicones, essential oils, fragrance/dyes, drying alcohols, SLS and chemical UV filters). All their products contain their signature marula oil.
💢This is a vitamin C serum with 15% L-Ascorbic Acid(LAA, antioxidant) along with other antioxidants such as 1% vitamin E and 0.5% ferulic acid to make it CEF. 📌The CEF combination works better synergistically than any one alone. 💢It also has glycerin(hydrating), lactobacillus ferment of pumpkin, marula oil(emollient, oleic acid/omega9), sodium hyaluronate(hydrating), red seaweed(antioxidant, emollient), green tea(antioxidant), lactobacillus ferment of pomegranate, licorice(anti-redness, antioxidant), grape juice extract(antioxidant), phyllanthus emblica(soothing, antioxidant), acetyl glucosamine(skin replenishing, works well on pigmentation with niacinamide), hydrolyzed quinoa(skin conditioning), tetrahydro curcuminoids(antioxidants), sodium hyaluronate crosspolymer(hydrating, smaller molecule that penetrates deeper), glycine(replenishing), sucrose(replenishing, hydrating). It has a pH=3.3-3.5.
📌The main purpose of using LAA is to 1️⃣provide photoprotection, 2️⃣stimulate collagen production and 3️⃣inhibit melanin production. LAA helps prevent TEWL and retain moisture levels in skin. LAA needs to be delivered in a pH<3.5 aqueous solution for dermal penetration. 📌LAA is clear in colour but oxidizes in the presence of light/air/heat/high pH to a dark brown colour(erythrulose). 📌Using ferulic acid+VitE improves LAA stability. The C+E combination enhances protection against UVA+B rays respectively. Shelf life of LAA can be extended by wrapping the bottle with foil and storing it in a fridge.
🍂In my routine: AM/PM post cleansing on wet skin
