Sporting the glasses🤓 Getting excited for my upcoming cataract surgery. If your not there yet. You will be one day and you’ll understand. Running has become quite the adventure. Especially in the early morning hours. Cataracts impair your ability to judge distances and see the ground in front of you. It gets very interesting when your not running on a level surface. Hence the many treadmill miles this summer. I’m also a little bummed over the fact that the run streak is in jeopardy. I’ve been told that after surgery physical activity is a no no for a couple of days. I’m definitely going to discuss this with the surgeon. I know 1 mile is the minimum distance. Is there a maximum time limit? At any rate my eye site is more important. A few ways to reduce cravings throughout the day: ➰ add cinnamon to your meals ➰ start the day with warm lemon water ➰ add fibre + protein + healthy fats into every meal and snack ➰ reduce carb intake in the morning with breakfast ➰ supplement with chromium ➰ rescue artificial sweeteners in your diet. Simple preworkout breakfast: oatmeal porridge with mixed nuts and hemp seeds. 🥣 _____________________ 1 cup of rolled oats 1 1/4 cup of water 1 tsp of vanilla Pinch of nutmeg Pinch of salt (optional) 1 bay leaf (optional) • ♡ Bring oats, water, vanilla, and nutmeg to a slight boil, then reduce to a simmer. ♡ Once oats fully cooked (15 - 20 mins), stir in some milk and sweeten as desired with maple syrup, brown sugar, or coconut sugar. ♡ Top with nuts, seeds, fruit, etc. Any extras can be saved for mealprep for the week!

Wanna know a secret about workouts that miiiight just change your outlook on them or how you do them? _ Not every workout should end with you drenched in sweat. You don’t have to spend an hour at the gym. And you shouldn’t feel completely depleted after every session. I think there’s a common misconception that we need to be in the gym, sweating our butts off, for hours. But truth is—some of my best and most effective workouts are 20 minutes long. If you plan/execute your workout properly, you’ll get the work needed out of it, no matter how long it takes. For example, HIIT and tabata workouts. Tabata workouts are 4 minutes long! _ I used to have this mentality. I struggled with accepting that I worked out hard if I wasn’t super out of breath the whole time and dripping in sweat by the end. And whewww baby what a beautiful thing it’s been since I’ve realized that’s NOT the case. So don’t sweat it guys (literally) if you have a short, sweet, sweat-free workout! Give it your all and give yourself the pat on your back you deserve 🤚🏻

Low sugar/high protein/no baking bars! Read the label on your protein bars...check the sugar content. You may be surprised 😮. Most of the time you are eating a chocolate bar with some protein added! Try these, they’re delicious! Eat one or two depending on your protein needs. They are filling and have 13.3 g of protein in one bar and less than one gram of sugar! My husband loves them! He eats 2 for over 26 grams of protein! - - Recipe: 1 cup coconut flour sifted 5 scoops protein powder (vanilla/chocolate) 1/2 cup of coconut milk (or almond milk) 2 tbsp vanilla extract 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds 1/4 cup shaved almonds 2 tbsp stevia powder (You can substitute nuts/seed for others if you have a preference. I sometimes do walnuts and dark chocolate mini chips too!) - Mix all dry ingredients together. Then combine ‘milk’ and vanilla extract. Pour half of liquid at a time, mixing well. This will form a very, very dry dough. Get your hands in there and kneed well. Press into a greased/lined pan and I add a few more almonds on the top, chill for half an hour before your cut. Store in the fridge. Workout today was meh. Tbh I walked out feeling downright frustrated and upset with myself how it went. Felt lethargic, wasn’t hitting my usual numbers on my lifts, overall not in the right zone. - Then I asked myself: did I give it 100% even if that “100%” differed from a previous day? ABSOLUTELY. Do I ever not?🤔 I still did the whole workout to the best of my ability. And that is giving it 100%👏🏼 . The reality is some days giving 100% means slamming PRs in the gym and some days it’s having to hit lighter weights or do less reps. Some days it’s realizing your body needs extra rest and being accepting of that. . Each day has its importance. I like to consider these my “mental-toughness building days.”🔨 They teach me more about my strength than any other. GIVE ME ALL THE HARD DAYS👊🏼💪🏼

Whole Wheat Pumpkin Gnocchi ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ingredients ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Gnocchi ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1 15 oz / 425 gr can of pumpkin puree (if you make it from scratch, like me, it has to be pretty thick) 2 cups / 8.8 oz / 250 gr whole wheat flour (you might need a bit more depending on the thickness of your puree) pinch of nutmeg ¼ teaspoon fine grain sea salt pepper to taste ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sauce ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2 tablespoons of olive oil (or butter) 2 teaspoons sage chopped ¼ teaspoon grated fresh ginger ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Directions ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In a large bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, flour, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Use your hands to mix the dough, it should be slightly sticky but leaving the side of the bowl easily. Divide dough into four parts, and roll each portion gently on a floured surface, about ½ inch thick. Slice dough into little cubes. Sprinkle flour on gnocchi to prevent sticking. With the tines of your fork, press lightly into the gnocchi to create an indentation.Cook gnocchi in a large pan of salted boiling water by batches, if necessary. As soon as they rise to the surface, they are cooked and ready to be served. Drain. To make the sauce, in a saucepan, heat the olive oil (or melt the butter until it’s lightly browned), add sage and ginger. Remove from the heat. I’m just as ready for the weekend as I am for these nutty bar bites 😂 Recipe below for you guys!👇🏻 . . NUTTY BITES *base* 1/2 C macadamia nuts 1/2 C cashews 3 tbsn flaxseed meal 2 tbsn maple syrup 1/4 tsp cinnamon *filling* 1 C favorite nut butter 1/3 C coconut oil 3 tbsn maple syrup *shell* 1 C dark chocolate 1 tsp coconut oil . . To make the base, combine macadamia nuts, cashews, maple syrup, cinnamon and flax meal in a food processor. Spread the mixture out into a prepared 8x8 baking pan and put in freezer for 5 minutes to harden. In the same food processor (no need to clean it before doing so), blend together your ingredients for your filling. Once base has set, pull from freezer and evenly spread out filling over top. Place back in freezer for about an hour to harden. Once you are ready to coat the nut bites, pull the pan from the freezer and allow to thaw for a minute or two and then cut into squares. I cut mine relatively small and was able to get about 25 pieces. Melt the chocolate, and add in the coconut oil- stir well until completely combined. Using a fork, dip each piece into the melted chocolate and tap your fork to get the residual chocolate off. Set coated pieces on parchment paper and sprinkle with sea salt. Store in freezer, allow 1-2 minutes to thaw before consuming. Before I went to the gym I prepped this beautiful dinner 😍 I can't wait to come home and eat you up! It is half a spaghetti squash topped with 99% lean ground turkey mixed with marinera sauce and topped with mushrooms, garlic, onions, and peppers that were sautéed in light margarine. And on the side I'm gonna have a big bowl of broccoli, a piece of whole wheat garlic bread, and a cup of skim milk. I don't know how I'm supposed to fit all of this food into my little tummy but I'm determined 💪
Dinner tonight is a mashed sweet potato mixed with stevia, cinnamon, and light margarine, a salad, and leftover Easter ham and turkey with gravy. And for dessert I'm having my new favorite--greek yogurt mixed with a bunch of goodies ☺️ whatever fits my macros will be topped in there
