Mahalo to @mauicountyfcu for having me at their annual employee training day where I demonstrated healthier food options in line with the Blue Zones philosophy. I’m thrilled to see locally owned companies investing in their employee’s wellness. I shared how to make a turkey and veggie burger like a local style hamburger steak, but with quinoa instead of rice. (We still had gravy, though!) I also demonstrated a kale/wakame/beet salad with a miso vinaigrette. Small changes like exchanging turkey for beef and adding veggies to the mix make a big difference. This recipe mimics comforting flavors and textures that will help to encourage a healthier lifestyle without sacrificing flavors or traditions. I gave them simple recipes and useful techniques to make it easier to incorporate healthier options into their lifestyle. Prepared for the first day in office after hols :). Meal planning is not my strength at the minute, but am continuously trying to improve my skills on this field. My myequa bottle and keepcup coffee container are with me everyday, for breakfast today I have some granola with coconut-almond milk, lunch will be some cold hummus-avocado-zucchini tortillas. TUESDAY TIPS : RAW ⛱ *Rocket and raw slaw, paprika prawns, sprouted lemony humous and alfalfa sprouts. *There’s an argument to eating more raw food in the summer. Eating lots of raw foods is sometimes considered more healthy as cooking can deplete nutrients in our food. *Because there is an abundance of fruit and vegetables at this time of year it also makes sense to include more fresh and raw fruit and vegetables. It’s refreshing and when it’s hotter your body naturally craves cooler foods. *However, cooking food also helps begin to break down the proteins which is a vital step in digestion. A very high protein food (eg meat or beans) is rarely eaten raw for a reason - humans instinctively know that cooking destroys some of the harmful bacteria’s and helps begin the vital breakdown of amino acids. *But there are types of foods which are certainly less tasty cooked and certainly don’t NEED to be heated. For instance lettuce and cucumber. Cabbage is another one sometimes overcooked and in summertime is a vegetable I love to enjoy raw. Sprouts are a nutrient powerhouse and soaking and sprouting legumes are a wonderful way of getting rid of the anti-nutrients in beans but retaining their benefits. *But remember eating a high raw food diet is not for everyone. For instance if you have IBS eating raw cabbage may in fact irritate your gut further and cause more symptoms. Eating lots of raw foods is not for everyone and is never something I would blanket recommend. *Further proof that there really is no one diet to fit all. Sometimes the simplest of food for a family is best. . This is a gluten and dairy free version of simple chicken & pesto (chickpea pasta) . Ingredients 300g chickpea pasta 200g organic (free range) bacon 🥓 lardons (optional) 450g organic chicken breast/strips 1 head of broccoli 4 tbsp dairy free pesto 1 small can of coconut 🥥 cream 1 clove crushed garlic Black pepper. . ⬇️ method Dry pan fry the lardons, remove and drain any excess and repeat. ➡️In a large pan of boiling water cook the pasta (Approx 6-8 mins) set aside and drizzle with a little olive oil to prevent sticking. ➡️ cook chicken fillets in a hot pan with a little water and crushed garlic ➡️once browned add the pesto and stir for 2 minutes ➡️add the pesto and stir for a further 2 minutes ➡️ add the broccoli 🥦 (2-3 minutes to keep crunchy ➡️add the coconut 🥥 cream and simmer for 2-3 minutes ⏹ stir in the cooked pasta and serve . . #bonapetit #healthyfood #glutenfree #dairyfree #intuitiveeating #intuitiveeatingjourney #healwithfood #healthyrelationshipwithfood #healthcoach #recipes #eatwelllivewell #happylife #fitmom #fitat40 #healthyinspo #lovelife #vbhwithalison #vibrantbalancedhealth

“Whatever” fitness. This picture was taken few weeks ago just before 6 a.m. on this incredibly beautiful beach near Calais. We were driving to Paris and stopped here on our way. I really wanted to do some morning yoga and go for swim. Since the water was very cold, I did a little bit of yoga and went for a run instead. As we age, it is so important to keep our fitness level up. It is important to keep moving, to keep our heart rate up, to stretch, to do both strength and core exercises, to lift weights and to do some yoga. It all really makes a huge difference to how we age. My life is a bit chaotic at the moment and there are so many reasons why I can’t exercise every day, why something else has to take a priority. But I really try and I try every day. Even if I can’t really have a routine at the moment and my results reflect that, i think that my results are still great and may be one day they will get better. Instead of the usual way of procrastinating while waiting for that Day 1 of my new routine, I just do whatever I can everyday. I wanted to share this with you because I keep hearing a lot of excuses and reasons for why not from my friends. And I just wanted to encourage them to to anything at any time whenever they can. Lobster flatbread with avocado, lemon mayo, and salad and lobster roll in a brioche bun, lunch of dreams last Sunday @dungenessfishhut. Then a bracing walk down the boardwalk to look at the sea afterwards. It was a perfect Sunday lunch and worth planning a weekend in Rye so I could end up there. While on holiday in Crete island, Greece last 2 weeks for 1 week, I ate Greek salad everyday as part of my dinner😋😊, the food though was always 👌 . . And now that I am back home, I decided to make me some Greek salad. It turned out well but off-course there is always one ingredient or the other you might forget when making some fairly new recipe. In this case I forgot some olives. . . But it still came out very delicious and I guess I will be making these for a while till I get bored of it 😁 . . A lot of new followers around these parts being like WTF IS PHFF? It’s the stupid easy approach I take to weight loss and maintenance. Like, stuuuuuuupid easy. . Eating this way keeps your body in fat burning mode more often than it’s in fat storing mode. Lemme just give you a quick breakdown. Each meal contains: . PROTEIN - at least 20g HEALTHY FAT - 1-2 servings (so like 10-20 g) FIBER - at least 8g/meal . Easy, right? And that’s it. . I've discovered than an oyster coma is a real thing! A few of us went for Endless Oysters ($45 per person) @thechasefo tonight and it really did seem to be endless! Platter after platter of oysters were delivered and four hours (and 600 oysters) later, we finally called it a night when we were told that they were finally out of oysters. My personal goal was 60 oysters which I reached (I ended up eating 83)... but unfortunately didn't get close to the 96 that @ateitforthegram had since they sold out. I guess that means another trip back to beat her record! Oysters (PEI Malpeques) were fresh and yummy but seemed a bit inconsistent with some oysters really plump and juicy and some others much more briney and smaller. The variance in size did make it kinda fun when figuring out how to stack our shells in in a creative manner. A few of us (myself included) were a bit childish and wanted to have a "trophy" at the end to showcase the amount we ate. Swipe to the end to see our "trophies". TONIGHT🥂 Our anniversary dinner at @blueislandoysterbar was wonderful🍽 This is where we ate for our birthdays last year, and it did not disappoint tonight! Turkey burgers and sweet potato fries for lunch • I cooked the turkey burgers in a pan and seasoned them with s&p, onion powder, garlic powder, and minced onion! Topped them with feta cheese, tzatziki, and cucumbers! I cooked some sweet potatoes fries in the air fryer we have - so much healthier than frying foods with oil and makes them so crisp 🤩 I also had a little bit of caramel on the side for my fries because that combo is SO good together! I had some extra cucumbers on the side too because I loveee them 🥒 I loved this meal because it’s light and refreshing with the tzatziki and cucumbers, but the burgers and savory and the fries are sweet so it’s a nice balance!!

Thai Chicken Satay.🍴Marinate Chicken in 1/3 CUP Coco-aminos (healthy version of Soy Sauce), 1 TBS Almond Butter, 1 Minced Clove Garlic, 1/2 TBS Minced Ginger and 1 TBS Lime Juice for 15 mins or longer. Slice Chicken Breasts longways and feed onto skewers. Grill about 5 MINS per side. Shred up and mix together Red and Green Cabbage, Carrots and Cilantro. Make up another batch of the Marinade and pour over and stir into the Cabbage Mixture. Arrange Chicken and Cabbage Slaw on plate and garnish with Limes and Cilantro. According to my 3.5yo notes, I adapted the recipes from @twopeasandpod & @joythebaker to make these Cranberries Greek Yoghurt Scones 🤷🏻‍♀️ I mostly likely had combined a greek yoghurt scones recipe with a cranberries scones recipe 🤔😅 ◽️ These time around, I made much smaller scones. Though I halved a recipe that made 9 large scones, I ended up with 10 small scones. Lol. On hindsight, I should’ve made them taller, they were only 0.5 inch tall before baking. ◽️ These scones turned out pretty well though I hadn’t made scones for a long time. They were moist, fluffy & delicious with clotted cream & homemade berries jam. ◽️ Coincidentally, the jam recipe is also from @twopeasandpod. It’s made with frozen mixed berries, honey, chia seed & vanilla. I didn’t measure the ingredients, just added honey according to taste. I don’t fancy store-bought jam as they are usually too sweet. This easy & quick homemade jam is delicious with scones, toasts, yoghurt & ice cream.
