LETS GET REAL AF ABOUT SKINCARE HERE FOR A SECOND -
I’ve wanted to share this for awhile, and @theblondemann
inspired me to share my journey
The second picture is my skin in January. Third is me trying to cover it with foundation. Being someone who’s always had “good” skin, it was the most frustrating thing to have my face change overnight. My skin was enflamed, red textured, and most importantly itchy and painful, AND it was on my face. Despite the magic makeup can do, there was no way to cover my skin. To top it off nothing seemed to soothe my face, in fact everything I did that is supposed to traditionally soothe the skin just made mine a drier itchier flaky mess. The more I researched the more I was sure I had perioral dermatitis.
There isn’t one cause for #perioraldermatitis
, it could be an allergic reaction, bacteria, the weather (the list goes onnn) which makes it next to impossible to find a specific treatment for it. It took me 8 months to find a regime that worked so I’m sharing it in hopes it helps someone!
When the red bumps first appear:
1. Cleanse with @larocheposay
Effaclar cleanser, or @dove
sensitive care bar works too.
Alternating with Selsun blue every other day.
2. Exfoliate the area with a WARM washcloth. It’s not the most comfortable but it’s vital.
3. Moisturizer with @vichycanada
Aqualia riche. This made a huge difference in my skin.
4. On top apply a layer of unpasteurized organic honey.
Once the red bumps aren’t flaking I added in @deciem
The ordinary 7% glycolic acid. It will burn but the next morning your face will be much clearer! Apple cider vinegar is also a great alternative.
Instead of night cream I use Egyptian magic*be sure to only apply this once the irritation is clear, it’s too thick to use on your skin if it’s still irritated*
Resurfacing mask 1-2 times per week. It’s the only mask that is gentle enough to not irritate the skin and chase redness
The last photo is my skin now. The most important thing that healed my skin was patience and confidence. It won’t happen overnight and no one cares if your skin isn’t perfect! It’s not easy but the only person who needs to feel good about it is you.
