Los equilibrios de brazos siempre han sido mi gran reto! Nunca tuve brazos fuertes 💪🏼 o fuerza abdominal... y siempre he sido muy flexible... pero yoga no es flexibilidad 🤸🏼‍♂️ incluso te puede perjudicar el exceso de flexibilidd sin estar compensado con la fuerza. Eka Pada Koundinyasana II - it certainly is a mouthful. It's also a rather difficult arm balance that requires a precise balance between strength and mobility. . I adore using the chair for many reasons and one of those reasons is to progressively load body tissue. Yoga can seem like a zero-sum game. You either can or cannot. But there is a whole area in between. The chair helps to support your body so that you can practice loading your tissues with more weight than #chaturanga but not as much weight on your hands than an unsupported version. . At first I wanted to write a poignant caption about balance... But after looking back at the image, what I wore, and considering the backstory... I decided to hit that delete button... It felt insincere... sometimes you have to call a spade a spade hahaha I was quite bored waiting and I was alone so I grab my iPad and snapped this image. I don’t think this is my best #ekapadakoundinyasana2 I’ve ever done but condidering I didn’t do any warmup and that trousers are not designed for that kind of movements... it was ok Named after the sage Koundinya/ Kaundinya who was one of the first disciple of Buddha, it is an #armbalance that also requires open hips and flexible hamstring besides the obvious core, shoulders and arms strength. I managed to get some sort of flow in, mostly thanks to two iPads and Netflix 😊 My body actually felt a bit better this morning, maybe it was the long car ride on Friday that made it so stiff yesterday? Or maybe it’s telling me it could actually get used to morning yoga? Well, it shouldn’t get it’s hopes up because there is no way I can fit morning yoga in when we are on regular schedule with kindergarten, school and work. I think I have to stick to my ”soon bedtime practice” for a few more years... Lizard to #crookedmonkey to #ekapadakoundinyasana2 to #chinstand back to #epk2 (sorta) For me, engaging the back leg and lifting the quads are so hard in lizard pose. Oh, so is hugging in my front knee. 😑 These cues can make this pose much harder and uncomfortable. I also wanted to add some armbalance today. Lowering down to epk2 from chinstand is my new challenge. I need more control for this transition. Of course!!! When I share a video or photo of an asymmetrical #armbalance , it’s usually on the right side, because that’s my good side 😉When I first learned #ekapadakoundinyasana2 , it took a full year before I could do it on my left side and not just my right. I suppose that in an ideal world we would learn something on both sides at the exact same time, but honestly, usually, I have to focus on figuring out something on the right side before my brain can even begin to make heads or tails of it on the left. That’s how it was for me when I danced too. That said, I finally figured out how to land in an #ekapadakoundinyasana2 from a #handstand on the left side! And this time it only took a few months, not a year 😂 🎉 Is that progress? I’d like to think so. Thank you, @kylevonrebarf for taking this video, and calling it “dank.” 💖

Happy Friday yogis! 3 month-versary of my yoga journey and I'm loving it! My EPK2 still needs work. I need to lift my chest higher and my hips are super tight. I still find crow pose to be very challenging. With lingering pain in my elbow, I'm staying away from this pose for now. Day 5 of #frommymattoyours is #lizard . Flexi lizard in the top pic has always been an easy pose for me because my hip flexors have always been very open. I breathe easily in this one and it feels so meditative for me. . Flying lizard or #ekapadakoundinyasana2 though. 🙄 Well it just kills me because, #chaturanga 😭😭😭. I only managed this one while still breathing within the past month and I can only do it on one side. I used to be amazed when @dralexiakwan would do this just anywhere. On her pool table, on the swimming pool ledge 😅🙄😱 and make it look so easy 💁🏻‍♀️. . Reminds me that we all have such different body types and “gifts”. And the point of yoga and life is that we all need to feel the good AND BAD stuff. So we become balanced and whole again. Yoga is giving me huge life lessons!! .
