I do love this asana but I don’t always love doing both sides and although I can transition from EPK to Chaturanga dandasana it is certainly not a favorite. To think of it, there are very few transitions that I’m a fan of. So in tonight’s #LearningtoLoveAsana I’ve chosen to show my propping for making the transition enjoyable (it actually is a lot of fun) and both sides. . . I have two sets of blocks, one block stacked on top of the other and the second pair right next to the first to cover the surface area of the front of my hips. Foam on top bc it feels better 😊 ⚜️from a lizard lunge, I walk my hand under my thigh and place the back of my thigh on my upper arm. As my elbows bend, like into chaturanga, I lift my front foot up and lift my back leg up (no it’s not simple). My hips are completely supported by the blocks. ⚜️I press my hips and hands down, engage the circumference of my core and outer hips then if my inner thighs together into chaturanga. Is one any less than the other? . We often get stuck on “the right one” and “the real one”. I’m asked to teach the “full” version but what makes the other version “less” than? The top photo isn’t seen because the pose is “done” with straight legs. But if all we see is the bottom version how are we to know that the top version (and many more building blocks to arrive here) even exists? . When I look at asana I don’t see can and cannot. I look at what is and what can be. I try to look at the foundation, steps and building blocks so that I don’t have to practice in a “can and cannot” world. I practice in a world of wonder and curiosity, a world of adventure and exploration so that the negative doesn’t lead me astray. There is enough of negative lingering around the corner so this is one place that doesn’t have to exist. ✨want props? Day 7 of the #werktheasana Challenge! It’s Arm Balancing Day and I have chosen the latest arm balance I’ve unlocked: Eka Pada Koundinyasana 2. I remembered being so happy doing this for the first time even though there was real struggle in keeping the back leg up making me hold the pose only for a split second. Only when I internalized the pose and really took time to “feel what was going on” did I realize that rather than thinking about just “going up” and relying on strength alone, I should also “move forward”, “offer my heart”, and “trust”. Only after doing these three 👆🏻 did I finally “fly” in this arm balance. Nothing was heavy. Not my back leg, not my upper body, nothing. I have been working on applying these three in my daily life as well. I know I am very strong and capable. But there are many things that require so much more. So whenever I feel like I am stuck or burdened...
