When your legs are too long to fit into a single square... 😅 . I let a lot of my hamstring flexibility go over the summer, but lately as I get back into it I realize how much I was holding there. What exactly I'm not sure, but I feel a million times better after a deep stretch these days, like it releases some sort of big emotional weight. I've always known the emotional connection with hip openers or heart openers, but never about hamstrings. All week in all of my yoga classes we have looked at the struggle that some yoga postures bring to most of us during our practices.Eka Pada Koundinyasana 1&2 being two of them I have had so many messages thanking me for the thought direction as we rested in Shavasana. I thought I’d share them. As we rest in jnana mudra the mudra of focus and calm, we allow ourself to ‘just be’ “Yoga is like life🧘🏻‍♀️ It’s not always easy.. Day 5 of #HollysHandstands . . . . . Breakthrough. Saw Kasia @aerial_delights doing this transition from stag handstand to epk2 for day 5 of Holly handstands and decided to give this transition that has always felt so tricky another go. I’d say I landed it finally but honestly I’ve barely worked on this transition because it always felt so foreign and far away. Lately though most of my breakthroughs have been landing transitions from handstand so there’s been a lot of progress there. Something about seeing Kasia gave me an idea though that maybe if I tried to keep my back leg up it might work. This transition really felt very cool and fun to land like flying right into it. I’m hoping it will stick so I can play around with it more. I was trying to keep up with this challenge but ultimately couldn’t because I haven’t been keeping up with my practice at all the last 3 days. It’s disappointing but my weird allergic or autoimmune reaction isn’t clearing up. It’s troubling and I’m working very long days into the night at the same time so just hoping and praying this long weekend and time to relax will help. . . . . Finally got into #infinitypose !!! The first time I saw this pose in person I thought it’d be impossible for me. But I knew I said that about dozens of other poses before too. It’s amazing what your body can do with time, effort, and consistency. Letting go of the ego, knowing when NOT to do something and when to push yourself for that little extra, being in tune with your environment and the energy you give off. It all plays a part! Some days you need a little extra from your group, some days they need some from you. Thankful for those I practice with :) First time transitioning WITHOUT blocks too! what if I fall? ...yes, but what if you fly? 🦅 - this is my mantra at the moment. it works in yoga, for poses like this, but it works for life too. trying to learn how to embrace fear and commit to leaping right out of my comfort zone. - feel like I'm flying after tonight's amazing class @oneyogastudio ! after a tough day it's exactly what I need to clear my head. cause moving your body moves your mind too! - yoga reminds me what I'm capable of. it has an amazing way of showing you what you can do. everything you think you can't do, you can. - if you've never been to a yoga class and there's even a little part of you that feels like you might enjoy yoga.. please try it! you might not love it straight away, you don't have to. but give it time, find your teacher, find your style, find the connection it makes between you and your body and your mind - between you and yourself - and see what it does for you. sure, you might fall, but what if you fly? 🦅🦅🦅 - p.s. we all fall sometimes, swipe for evidence of when I've lost focus and am about to faceplant 😏

That mini flow the other day after following one of Rodney Yee's classes on #gaia Just feeling myself on my mat. I love the slow purposeful movements in Yoga. So I tried to do the flying crow to Angle 8 drop and it was way harder than I thought. That back leg extended makes the float so much harder. Joshua your a Bad Beast 👊🙏 . 🕉. The rest from Joshua . My Arm Balance Badasses, we are on to week 2! So first, a refresh on the Flying Crow/Eight Angle transition: most of you brought through the “flying” leg. That is not, however, what I demo’d 😉 I show this again in slide ✌️; you are free to compare it with the video I posted for Week 1. In my IGTV video today, I discuss the increased difficulty in bringing through the grounded knee, opposed to the one that’s already released. Check it out, and add it as a secondary bonus to this week’s challenge if you like! . Now, the main event: Crow or Crane to Hurdler’s. This transition appears deceptively easy. It requires a decent amount of courage up front, to lean forward far enough to balance out the back leg on the way down, as well as some proficiency in working toward a Flying Crow. While you don’t have to have Flying Crow in your practice to make this work, it will certainly help. . So, let’s break this down: Hard—pull one knee into your chest for a half-Lola as you settle that same side hip onto your elbow, then extend the leg. Harder—extend both legs simultaneously as you lower to Hurdler’s. Hardest—how slow can you go? How long can you take in making the transition, NOT how long can you hold the pose. . Alignment: • Keep your elbows wrapped in. Think Chaturanga arms. • Back is straight; take the arch out of your lower back by maintaining a tight engagement of your abs and tucking your tailbone. • Chest is lifted; just like in Chaturanga, you don’t want your chest to dip to the ground. Hurdler’s is not about back leg height, but rather about pristine balance. Find it. You can do it. . Hit me with any questions you may have. It was a treat to drop in on class with @adrianaadele on Wednesday and she guided us into #ekapadakoundinyasana2 and with slow, careful movements, I found myself there!! Arm balances are creeping back in, and it feels so gooooooood. 🖤 There was a period of time in which I worked on tough poses like this with great fervor, and I transformed my hyper mobile, weak body into something much more strong and resilient. 🖤 Then I flew off my bicycle in August and broke the hell out of my arm and every single medical professional told me that I wasn’t more hurt because I was so STRONG. I was too drugged to tell them the truth: actually my nature is *not* #strength . It’s mobility and weakness NO REALLY IT IS- y’all should have seen me when I was 25 😂😂 🖤 But the point is that it WORKED. I layered strength on top of my dangerously mobile joints and when push came to shove and bike came to crash, it supported me. That whole time I thought I was practicing to achieve arm balances, but turns out it was really to fortify myself for the unexpected. HA!! 🖤 I’ll #keepgoing ; the #yogapractice is working. The gratitude comes like a tidal wave; I feel so, so lucky to have found the #yoga !

“My emotions were gaining traction and my inner state was becoming intolerable. The voice inside my head was mean and it wasn’t helping. It isn’t that yoga made it go away, but rather showed me that there was something else than just the loudest feeling to relate with. That the suffering in my head was also an associative problem. Before my practice grew, I was my pain, I was my hurt and I was defined by my suffering. It was crushing. The practice helped me to identify that I had more inside me than the suffering. It helped me to experience that. The trainings, philosophies and readings helped me to learn about my experiences and understand them. I am still in training everyday. Somedays are hard. I still feel defeated sometimes, but I go back to my practices and the things I have learned and in time I remember I am more than this trouble and also I am more than the happiness. There is a lot coming at us when we invest in our lives and it can sweep us up. Yoga helped me to connect to the otherness of it all, the thing I am before, during and after all of this good and bad “stuff”.⁣ - Graham @searide ⁣ ⁣ Yoga teacher training is so much more than studying poses and memorizing cues. It took me a few days of practice just to be able to do this, so now I can work on slowing it down! On my week side I have it too, but only if I begin in flying crow instead of crow and then releasing the leg.
