A little story about @kulkulfarm
3 years ago all of this was a dream in our mind (and a doodled sketch on paper).
Our home, the gardens, community space, kitchen, classroom, and food forest all happened very quickly. The Balinese we work with are incredible. Orin and I are like orchestra conductors, the ones singing are really our team and all of you who support us in what we do.
Starting a business is never easy, especially as a 26 year old. Even more so, trying to start a farm & a business for good, where your heart tells you to give people free food, build houses for people that need it and offer free courses.....its confusing to say the least. But how do you do that and survive financially? How do you make farming attractive and a worthwhile career choice if it doesn’t pay well? You can’t. And so, as it is with all things we find a balance.
We are a business for good, and a farm. We teach skills, we share stories, and hope that people are moved by it enough to come join us in our pursuit of living with nature whilst providing for ourselves and creating opportunities for others. When we’re faced with insecurity and doubt (which happens often!), we look back at what we had 3 years ago and what we have now and the joy and gratitude we feel is hard to articulate into words. People ask how it happened so quickly, I’m not sure of the answer but it definitely includes a love for nature, resilience and an ability to catch the opportunities as they come.
If you haven’t met us yet, or visited the farm we’ve got a bunch of things happening in the next few months. If you’re interested in a short visit we have tours every Monday. If you’re after a more in-depth experience with lots of skills and knowledge gained, permaculture (#kulkulpdc
) and herbal medicine courses are coming up next month, and #bamboou
We’re also plotting an incredible collaboration with pretty much our permaculture idols for our June/July Permaculture Design Course (hint: @milkwood_permaculture
). More on this soon. .
