This isn't a dog either but I've been waiting for months for these flowers to bloom. I was gifted a cutting from a friend a few years ago and didn't manage to get it properly planted. It took up root in one of our cymbidium pots and basically took over. Moving it to our new home last year was a total pain in the ass bcz the thing sprawls out of the pot by several feet in any direction. Trying to get around it to water the rest of the orchids is equally a pain in the ass. Thankfully though, our epi loves its new warmer environment so this year we will do it right and give it a proper basket of its own. Hope the show is as good next year. There were over 50 flower buds on this cactus but several didn't open, as expected. Still, a few dozen of these giant beauties on one plant is pretty cray. Each flower is about 8"!!!

It’s official! I’m now a board member of the San Francisco Orchid Society (SFOS). When I first started growing orchids almost a decade ago, I remember going onto the SFOS website wishing I could be a member to learn more about orchids and meet likeminded people. I was pretty young at the time and living in San Jose, it was merely admiration from afar. Fast forward to today, I’m in awe and feel incredibly humbled to not only be a member but also become someone who can influence others to be more passionate about orchids, plants, and to the environment. A professor in college once asked me, “What do you stand for?” I’ve kept that question very close to my heart because “I stand for the environment, the plants and the animals that inhabit them.” Friends, I welcome you to come check out SFOS meetings and show events to learn and meet passionate growers - an experience you won’t truly feel from social media or the internet. The SFOS hosts major orchid shows like Orchids in the Park and the Pacific Orchid Exposition. Learn more about the SFOS: http://www.orchidsanfrancisco.org
We’re all googley-eyed 👀 over our new bromeliad plant babies...though some of them are 5’ tall, so it’s more like adopting a basketball player. Cannot wait to start unpacking and styling in our new space in #NOLA #fairdoesfl #werktrips
It’s flowering and pupping season for all of my plants! This stunning Red Abdita just began to flower yesterday. I’m absolutely in love with the color palette from the vibrant purple blossoms, the soft green outer leaves, and the vivid red that appears on the inner tips of the leaves on this plant. Absolutely gorgeous 😍🌱
Fun fact: airplants reproduce by producing pups after their bloom cycle, and they also make seeds! Not all species of Tillandsia self pollinate or produce seeds. However, if you want to give it a try, use a small paintbrush or cuetip and gently brush the pollen from the stamen onto the stigma. Airplant seeds take a long time to develop, so don’t be surprised if a seed pod opens up a year or so after pollination! Have you had any luck pollinating your airplants? Let me know in the comment section!

Tillandsia in habitat sometimes appear to be climbing trees not just hanging on, so inspired by ingenuity of nature
An epiphyte fern clings to the bough of an oak tree, giving it the appearance of a furry limb. Both thriving. Isn't nature wonderful?
