🌿 Not-So-Fun-Fashion-Fun-Fact #2
: Compared to less thab 20 years ago, the average person buys 60% more clothes and keeps them for half as long.
Guilty as charged. Over the years I've bought so many clothes I'm not even sure j really liked just because they were on trend at the time just to get bored of them a couple of months (...weeks) later.
Lately I've been trying to make do with the clothes I already have (link on bio) and trust me, I have so many I can go the whole year without wearing the same shirt twice! 🙈. I'm experimenting and trying to figure out what I like instead so that when I'll eventually buy something I know I'll get clothes I like and value, rather than falling prey of the latest trend.
Do you have any clothes you don't really like or use in your wardrobe? Why did you get them? Don't be ashamed, we're all in this together

The Problem with Single-Use Coffee Pods ❌
People love Nespresso machines. They think that they’re incredibly practical, make a great espresso and the machines themselves are of high quality and quite reasonably priced. However, there are problems with single-serve coffee pods. Firstly, there is the price. A high-quality store brought ground coffee can be purchased at an extremely lower price.
The main problem, however, is with the environmental impact of single-use pods. Trying to recycle used capsules is often not easy. The two materials that the majority of coffee capsules are made from, plastic and aluminium, must be separated, and this cannot be done in standard recycling plants. Aluminium coffee pods reportedly take between 150 to 500 years to decompose.
A whole bean machine alleviates that waste and also helps to make your brew more delicious by letting you support your local, sustainable roaster. ⠀⠀⠀⠀
I was walking past the egg section doing some late night grocery shopping. As I was pushing my cart, I see the label "free-run eggs".
Wait? What? What are free-RUN eggs? Is this different than free-range eggs? How can you run without range? Arn't they both cage free? What even is an organic egg? Why am I seeing Omega-3 here, its very fishy lol? All potential puns aside, I wasn't eggaclty clear about what these labels meant, but was eggcited to find out :).
Free-run: Hens live in a cage free barn, with access to perches and nests, however - they are partially limited. They do not experience the outdoors and remain in the warehouse.
Free-range: Press repeat on the hen's free-run experience, however when the weather permits it, hens are able to roam out of the housing and into the acres.
Enhanced-Cage: This is the deluxe suite vs the bachelor. Each hen has access to a pearch, a nest, a scratching zone etc. but their space is limited to their allotted area.
Organic eggs: When a hen is fed only with organic grains that are free of pesticides or preservatives for at least 3 years, is when their laid egg is considered organic. Fyi- This doesn't mean that the hen is antibiotic free, so be warry if this is an important consideration for you :).
Omega-3 eggs: If a hen's diet is rich in flax (ie-flaxseeds), this naturally increases the egg's Omega-3 content. However, please dont mistake eating eggs instead of fish twice weekly when looking for this essential oil! Although a serving of omega-3 egg's has close to 300mg,'s of Alpha Linolenic Acids (ALA), it is recommended that women intake 1,100mg's daily while men require 1,600mg daily.
Let's compare! Standard eggs: hens live indefinitely in confined spaces, which are in common practice overcrowded. No access to perches/nests/scratching zones. These kinds of living conditions (as studies show) will affect the quality of the shell and yolk, however the price per egg is dramatically lower as a result.
Eggcelent! :D. Hope you had a speggtacular day :). #nutrition #healthierme #healthyliving #healthy #ethicalconsumer #ethicalfood #happy #mindfulliving #egg #eggs #foodie #foodiesofinstagram #food

Sending deep congratulations to all of the winners of the 2018/2019 Portland Fashion and Style Awards, but giving a special shoutout to Heather Sikorski, winner of Best Fashion Show Producer! 🏆 🍃
I’m an immense supporter of what she, Kelly Raynor, and their team stands behind and embodies in their productions: from their eco-aware runway competitions, 🌱 to clothing swaps, 👗 to teaming up with the Sustainable Fashion Forum. 🌿 Every aspect of their work has impacted my perspective as a fashion lover, consumer, and designer, and as a result, I’m proud to say that impact has prompted changes in my habits and practices in nearly every area of my life. I’m truly grateful to the entire team at Modify Style for the impact that has been left on me, the values that have been instilled, and a passion born inside me that I was unaware existed. 🌿
I’m so incredibly excited to see where Heather, Kelly, and their team go from here and what they’ve accomplished so far, and wish them the best and my continued support!

this morning. Not only is the packaging wasteful, buying set amounts of produce is also wasteful for the planet and your wallet. Especially if you only want 4 mushrooms and 1 pepper 😟Leave it on the shelf!
This is the reality of plastic waste. All of this is stuff that cannot be recycled through the city’s programs, including styrofoam and plastic packaging that’s difficult to avoid (from household appliances, food items, office supplies, etc.). This waste will be recycled thanks to a paid service. It’s an imperfect solution that is not accessible to all, and the company is getting too much material to be able to keep up with it ✨.
🖼 It’s not a pretty picture, but I post it because it’s important to focus on waste as a structural problem that requires changes that go beyond the individual — changes in national policies, local infrastructure, city recycling programs, and business practices that reduce waste at all levels, before it comes down to a personal choice of conscious consumerism ✨.
👩🏾💻 Individuals can make a difference and small actions do matter. But focusing on the big picture means recognizing the limits of individual choices and the need for structural and lasting change ✨.
🌎 An honest look at household waste can keep things in perspective, which means being easier on ourselves and others for our imperfect actions ✨.
➡️how can we move beyond individual actions and conscious consumerism to make change? ✨.

Let’s get to know each other on this rainy, gloomy Thursday - lightening round style! • 3 things I’m thankful for right now: a day of work at home in my pj’s between multi-day events, all the Holidays feels (candles, music, decorations), a date night with my husband tonight- we haven’t had the chance for a “real” conversation that lasted more than 5 minutes in over a week! • 3 things I’m working on: not being so hard on myself (didn’t even realize I did this until recently through counseling!), being more patient, cooking more meals at home. • 3 things I’m reading right now: Everybody Always by Bob Goff, Becoming by Michelle Obama, and Confessions of an Adoptive Parent by Mike Berry. • 3 things I’m excited about: an empty calendar next week (🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼), huge events coming up (love meeting & shopping with you!), and getting our home study started for our adoption! • If 3 magic wishes were a real thing, I’d wish for: an incredible singing voice, the ability to have clean hair without ever having to wash it, and a magic kitchen that cooked all our meals for me 😍 || I want to hear what your 3 magic wishes would be, below! 💕 📸 @sarahdmock
Do you remember yesterday when I asked you about your first job? Well, here's the thing...
For many of the women making our products, this is their first job where they get to keep their money. Let that sink in for a moment. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME SHE GOT TO KEEP THE MONEY SHE EARNED. A good portion of the women who make our products previously came from sex trafficking. While some might consider that a "job", she usually never sees that money she "earns". Women keep working because they're told they're working off a debt...one that they never even made. .
So when one of our artisan partners can offer a new woman a paid job making our products, it's cause for celebration. 🎊 These "first" jobs are more than jobs. They're freedom. Freedom to earn. Freedom to spend. Freedom to choose. Those freedoms we take for granted everyday. So yes, while we essentially sell handbags, and dresses, and jewelry, we're actually inviting you to celebrate freedom with us. Will you choose to celebrate with us?
Your perfect travel companion.

Iceland’s TV Christmas advertisement was banned not because of its hidden message for boycotting palm oil – products but because of its origin. This Ad was originally produced by Greenpeace and broadcasting will be against advertising low.
However, I’m grateful for this heartbreaking animated Ad for all this conversation started to swarm. Deforestation going with a palm crops expansion causing loss of wildlife and tropical forests which at the end becoming a reason for global warming.
People also suffer because of unscrupulous manufacturers. Indonesia's hideous fires lasted almost two months at 2015 was the result of years of the spread of palm oil plantations. Those were the areas that cause the most havoc when they catch fire.
Palm oil ban cannot help us to save forests and endangered animals like an orangutan or a Sumatran tiger. Compared to other common sources of vegetable oil – such as rapeseed and soybeans – palm oil crops yield four to ten times more oil per unit of land. Which meant that palm oil ban would just require more land for agriculture.
There is an answer - certified palm oil crops! Plantations created to be eco-friendly may even safeguard wildlife. Years ago in 2004 was created a production standard called RSPO. That's why the holistic and sustainable approach may change the things. #Conservation #palmoil #sustainableliving #savetherainforest #sustainability #RSPO #POIG #ethical #notforprofit #bethechange #ethicalconsumer #wildlife #extinction #orangutan #elephants #tigers #rhino #アムールトラ

Who Knew this swimwear can empower women in their own communities? #whoknew
100% of our profit makes loans that enable women to start a business and plan for their futures. Where women are able to earn a steady income they invest more in housing, education, nutrition and all the important things that raise happy and healthy families. And once a woman is seen to be earning an income her status is also elevated in her own community, giving her a voice where perhaps she has had no rights, not even over her own children. Buy our swimwear, make a loan and change a life. #SocialEnterpriseDay #SocEnts #Womensempowerment
It’s coming into the warm snuggly cuddly cold frosty HOT DRINKS season in The UK 🇬🇧 and I love it 🤩
Don’t forget your reusable coffee cup when enjoying your warm reviving coffees and hot chocolates. Coffee cups are hard to recycle because they have layers of different materials. Even “conpostable” ones need an industrial composter to fully work. Your best bet is getting your own beautiful Reusable cup and express yourself and the message too! 🙌
KeepCup founder on revolutionising coffee culture 🌻
Abigail Forsyth launched KeepCup with her brother Jamie in 2009 after they became appalled at the huge number of disposable cups that were being thrown away after use at Bluebag, a small coffee chain they ran in Melbourne. They searched for reusable cups that they could sell to customers but couldn’t find any that were suitable for the speciality, barista-made, coffee that took off in Melbourne during the late 1990s.
Undeterred, Forsyth decided to manufacture her own range of reusable cups. Trendy cafés across Australia began selling KeepCups, giving the company an additional revenue stream. Less than a decade later the business has sold 8 million cups in 32 countries, which Forsyth estimates will prevent 12 billion disposable coffee cups going into landfill.
Forsyth has built sustainability into her home, as well as her business. She seeks to live by a “buy well, buy once” philosophy and says that « it speaks to my beliefs about creating the space for change ». ⠀⠀⠀⠀
