CHANGEMAKER SERIES 🌟Meet Jo AKA @treesnpeace
, student in Dundee, deeply in love with Planet Earth, and who wants to do everything in her power to preserve it. She lives by the mantra: You have two homes, the Earth and your body, take care of them.
Jo started her zero-waste journey after experiencing mass consumption in the US. Recently, she started a sustainability-society at her University and launched many campaigns. One initiative we really liked: Dundee’s first Plastic Attack, a peaceful demonstration to visualise the current plastic crisis. ⠀⠀⠀⠀
Jo explains « we bought plastic-packaged items at Tesco and unwrapped them outside the shop. All the waste was collected, not to guilt-shame, but to visualise how polluting shops are compared to what it could look like.
offered to dispose all litter, saying “we generated it, we’ll deal with it”. Surprised by this response, yet exactly what we are aiming for! Next step: not generating the plastic at all. A demand shift will change the supply chain ✊
Her advice? « Collect all your waste for some time (2-4 weeks). This will give you a good overview of where your waste comes from and what you need to adjust. We all have different lifestyles, so personalising this journey is essential! »
