Friendship in the sky
It started like any other journey... the only thing amiss was that I got a middle seat - normally take the window or aisle. There was a friendly looking guy in the window seat already. The aisle one was taken coincidentally by someone I knew a bit - the husband of one of my close friend and office colleague. So we settled down for a 7 hr Etihad flight from Manchester to Abu Dhabi...and then we 3 started talking. One thing led to another and soon it became a heart to heart discussion on life, its lessons and blessings. A few glasses of red and white wine (and some fruit juices) later, it was apparent to most of the crew and nearby travellers that a Lahori, a Malayali and a Bengali were there to stay friends for long ( and would go on chatting during the entire trip!). The discussions were on a variety of subjects - people, politics, culture, cuisine, family and everything else under the sun! The airline staff (especially Ilenia...the lovely Italian lady) were patient and friendly enough to keep us replete for all those 7 odd hours :) We were not too vivacious or too sombre...we had healthy arguments but were eager to hear other's point of view. We advised each other ( the easiest thing in the world) on how to get on with life, we pulled each other's legs...it was as if we'd known each other since ages. Then the time came for us to part ways...no, it wasn't a sentimental moment - we knew we would be in touch. So, just a bear hug, in which I got lost between two men of considerable height! We 3 are in 3 different countries now - a flirt, a cynic and a committed person - a religious, a God fearing and an atheist - one with more than a dozen tattoos, another with just the one and the third who couldn't coz of religious beliefs - an unmarried one thinking of taking the plunge, a second trying to swim back to shore in futility and the third happily swimming along in the deep waters. Life goes on, friendship just happens at the most unexpected times, at the most unexpected places. You can't search for it, just need to accept it when you find. I hate goodbyes..its always au revoir - till we meet again yaaras!
PC: Yaaras :)
