I used to hit the gym 5 days a week religiously. But lately I’ve been focusing more on mom duties and work. At the end of the day when I rest my head I need to know my son is well taken care, I have food in the fridge and finances are squared away (my homework is done). I’ve only made it 2-3 times the last few weeks. Today while babysitting I did 20 deep squats outside and 20 push-ups on the kitchen counter, 30 heel raises and butt squeezes in different toe positions, 5 broad jumps and 10 bunny hops. I have lots of workout accessories at home that I’m hardly using and fixing to start. For moms (or anyone) that are not getting the exercise they need or want 10 minutes a day can make a difference. Rather than doing nothing, do something, even if it’s small. Allow yourself to just do a little for now. See it as progress. Making the effort will lift that heavy cloud. Exercising for a couple of minutes at a time many times a day can be really beneficial. Luckily for me as well I have quite an active job. Incorporate short bursts of exercise into your lifestyle. This helps you to make it a habit as you don’t have to set aside huge amounts of time. Get up out of your chair and walk to your colleagues desk rather than sending an email, use the stairs, get up as many times as you can and basically just keep moving. BALL TO BELL END . It’s Monday and you know what that means. You gotta get your #cardiofix . . Today’s is simple. . 20 wall balls followed by 10 kettlebell swings. . Just do as many rounds as you can for 10 minutes. . If you don’t have a wall to throw the ball against, just catch the damn thing. You can substitute with a basketball or football (soccer) if you don’t have access to the type of med ball I’m using. . I don’t put these cardio fixes together randomly. I actually put some thought into them so that you get the most out doing them. . Wall balls work the squat pattern and hip flexion. Think of hip flexion as bringing your thigh towards your body. Then we have the kettlebell swing, which is an opposing movement pattern to the hip flexion called hip extension. . So you see, you get a bit of balance and synergy. Clever that eh? . Haven’t worked out in over a month... I went on vacation for 2 wks and didn’t exercise at all except for walking everywhere, ate a lot of junk food and when I got home, I was too busy catching up with work and other personal matters. It’s 12/3/17 and I’m going to resume my normal workout activities. This fitness journey is hard, but I’m going to try to be more consistent with my workouts and β€œhealthy” eating.
