Alley of the Kiss 💋
The history of the mines includes a story of Don Carlos and his lot in life.
Legend has it that Miss Ana and Don Carlos we’re in love with each other. She was a rich Spaniard, while he was a poor miner. To be close to his beloved, Don Carlos rented a house directly across from Miss Ana’s, thereby spending most of the silver coins he received as a salaried miner. Yet, he downplayed this because the houses separated by a very narrow alley where they could have contact from each other’s balconies.
So, the encounters became routine, until one night, Ana’s father arrived home and unexpectedly found them on their balconies kissing. “Not my daughter with a commoner!” was his reaction. “You will never see this miner again!” “A thousand times I would prefer to see you dead than to see you become the wife of a commoner!” he warned. Ana asked herself if God would permit such an injustice and didn’t heed her father’s warning. The nightly encounters continued. Be it lack of foresight on the lovers’ part or just bad luck, the father again found his daughter kissing the miner. Blinded by the anger and without letting her know, he went downstairs to his room, grabbed a dagger, went back to where she was and plunged it in her back.
Don Carlos yelled: “No!” and kissed his beloved on her hand as she was slipping away in death. This alley was named after the last kiss he gave her on the back of her hand. Ever since then this legend reminds us of the love ❤️ that this couple shared in the alley.
