I get profiled a lot when skiing. Yeah, most brown people don’t ski. I do. And I do it well. I mean “well” by white people standards not brown people standards.... that’s what I mean by profiling. My sisters and I are the lucky recipients of forward thinking, progressive, parents who- when they were early in their life in Canada- decided to raise a family that could do anything and everything that the little white kids were doing. We didn’t have to know cultural limitations because they didn’t bring that into our lives (right @savishamseer ?). I started skiing before turning 10. As you can imagine, the ski hills in Ontario are not great (nothing compared to the Rocky Mountains that I regularly get to ski in now). As children, we’d go on yearly family ski vacations to Vermont or Quebec where we were put in ski lessons for part of the day and had some free family ski time for the rest of the day. As a result, I can ski. Well. A handful of years ago, my Dad told me how proud he was that I could not just keep up with but fit in well with my husband + in laws (who are all fantastic skiers). My parents invested everything in my sisters and I so yes, I’m a very lucky recipient of their love, time, effort, sweat, tears, & heartache. Today, I had a fantastic afternoon ripping down the hill at @marmotbasin. It was an incredible ski day. 🎿 ⛷ ❄️ ⛰ 🌞 🙋🏽‍♀️ #luckygirl #skierforlife #luckyme #exploretherockies #browngirlskiing #lovemycrockedgoggles #goggletan #limitless #youputlimitsonyourself #brownpeople 📷: @hhicks67

What A Wonderful Thought It Is That Some Of The Best Days Of Our Lives Haven’t Happened Yet

While making this image, I dropped a roll of film in the grass just beside my camera bag. A 15 minute search was unsuccessful and I left that day with the film still somewhere in the meadow. Seven years later I returned to this location, looked down in the grass and there was the roll of film as it was left years before. We cant help but share this photo @tay.bassi took while visiting us in Alberta, Canada.
I grew up with the mountains in my backyard in Alberta and appreciated them for everything they offered in spectacular beauty and amazing outdoor adventures. But the sea was always calling. When I moved to Vancouver I had the best of both worlds. Nova Scotia eventually lured me east and though I still long for the Rockies the sea keeps my heart singing. Are you mountains or sea? ( or lucky enough to have them both?) . . . . . #kdrbcreative #banffnationalpark #travelalberta #creativephotography #intothewoods #thepurecure #explorecanada #rockymountainway #thegreatoutdoors #albertacanada #winterland #exploretherockies #bythebay #mountainlife #canadian #naturephotography #landlover #landandsea #lakelouise #travelgram #instatravel #imagesofcanada #instagood #keepitwild #optoutside #naturalbeauty #winterwonderland #outdoorphotography #naturephotography #canadianlife #travellife
A herd of elk grazes, seeking out the tender new shoots of grass. It’s May; at this altitude greenup comes late but quickly, and in another week or two this meadow will be green and filled with the sound of elk cows calling to their new calves. This is Ya Ha Tinda, which means “prairie in the sky”, and that’s exactly what it is - a slice of grassland cradled by the Rockies, a sanctuary for many of Alberta’s iconic species. Right now, the Alberta government has an open consultation period on their proposal to make Ya Ha Tinda and much of the surrounding area into a series of protected parks and public land. These parks would protect habitat for species like bull trout, caribou, and grizzly bears as well as the headwaters of important rivers for Alberta, while allowing world-class outdoor recreation for locals and tourists. Some development of new facilities is proposed, and existing recreational trails and sites would stay open, but a main goal of the proposal is to protect natural areas. To me, this seems like a no brainer. With our rapidly expanding population comes a heavy toll on our environment, and I commend our provincial government for recognizing this and moving to put protections in place while maintaining the recreation opportunities that we albertans are so proud of. I also applaud the open consultation on this area - anyone can give feedback on the plans. I recognize that some people have different values and opinions from me, and I encourage them to fill out the survey as well. However, lately there have been reports of parks supporters being bullied and threatened by detractors to the point where public forums have been cancelled out of concerns for safety. Misinformation about the park proposal has been spread online. This is NOT OKAY. This is not who we are as albertans. Differences in opinion are fine, but threats and spreading wrong information are not. Anyone who enjoys Alberta’s wild places should fill out the survey, discourse respectfully, and consider what they want the future of our beautiful province to look like, WITHOUT engaging in bullying or rhetoric. #elk #bighorncountry #albertacanada #alberta #yahatinda #elkherd #wildelk

This was a long skin track up for the early season and had me wishing I was not so out of shape by the half way point. I was amazed by the team member that broke trail most of the way up. She killed it!
Who remembers the old fire pit above the valley on the way to the Yurt? What a view! Of course, fire safety and the protection of our beautiful parks is far more important than a fire pit with a view so this guy had to go. When planning renovations for your new retail space, it's important to prioritize the needs of your staff.
This — the #rockymountains and how much of them there is to explore (and by “explore,” I don’t mean just physical adventure, but just the way you feel out here..) — is Wolf Mountain’s inspiration, and mine, on so many personal levels. When we moved here, somewhat abruptly (long story), I think the people I knew had a hard time wrapping their heads around WHY we wanted to move all the way across the country, and what it really meant to us.. And our lives did change — adapting to this lifestyle, the very real challenges of #lifeonamountain , and missing the ones we love who are so far away — but living here has a way of putting your life, and all of its drama, into #perspective . 🙏🏻 It suddenly it feels like your shit isn’t as big as it usually seems to be. We came here and were overcome by how positively a seemingly simple geographical shift impacted our lives. Your universe somehow shrinks in a place like this, and it’s obvious that your life exists not as a series of social niceties and bullshit, but instead as a tiny part of an all-encompassing whole — MUCH larger and more significant than anything that’s bugging you or bringing you down. It reminds you to slow down and really put your heart into the things you do and love. Maybe the mountains aren’t for everyone, but they’ve become a part of me. Tell me — what/where is your creative refuge or inspiration? 🖤
I can’t wait to be home ❤️
