[Swipe for process videos 🎵] Illustrating the “Moon Lady” has been a most satisfying and yet humbling experience. It was more of an exploratory piece for me in to try out a few new watercolour techniques (wet on wet, watercolour blooms) and paints that I do not normally use. So do you think I should paint more like this piece?😉
Paper : Strathmore 300 Series 300gsm Coldpressed (A3) - not my usual choice but needed some texture to bring out the granulating effect I want. Blending would probably be less of a struggle if I had used better grade paper. 😅Note to self : pick up higher grade CP paper the next time at the store. And the other challenge I had with this paper is painting the details such as the face features. It is easier with HP paper.
Special Effect Paints from @danielsmithartistsmaterials
: Sodalite Genuine (a granulating paint to create the moon landscape), Kyanite Genuine (with crushed gemstones for a subtle sparkle), Iridescent Sapphire (for now-you-see-it-now-you-don’t magical shimmer) and my absolute favourite Moonglow (a gorgeous 3-pigment paint that I used for the background together with Dark Blue Indigo). .
