3 months ago I made a written and signed promise to myself. I wrote it a day after a Halloween Party. I didn’t think I drank much, but I still went to bed bloated, dizzy and sick. Sleep came eventually, and I woke up the next morning, like so many other mornings, thinking “this has to stop”
Why was it different this time? I had to DO something different this time.
Dump the liquor cabinet.
I opened the vodka first. Smelt that horrible poison smell, and dumped it down the sink.
Than the Kahlua. That sweet, chocolatey, goes down smooth with a satisfying burn, smelt like throwing up.
Than the Rum Chata, the Triple Sec, the Creme de Cocoa, a bottle of Ceaser - mmmm - down. And finally, two Somersby - apple and raspberry - my favourite. I opened the apple, took a long sip, than dumbed it. And the raspberry.
The deed was done. I collected all the empties, piled them up, wiped my hands clean, and started a sober life.
I cant tell you why this time worked. All I can say was that I was ready.
The 3 month point - 90 days, marks where this habit becomes a lifestyle.
Every milestone is significant.
