❤❤So last year I fell in love with Afro-Cuban dance. I typically have never been one to seek out #Goddesses
, however they do come to me. 👑 #yemaya
introduced herself to me at #howarduniversity
when I was cast to play her in that years musical. I wasn't excited as I had no idea who she was, and it wasn't a lead role 😏. As I worked with her though, I began to feel so very loved and ingratiated. Last year she helped me conquer and overcome major fears, anxiety and I connected back to myself through her energy in my dancing. I studied through Youtube...lol. I learned the basics and made it my own, but I still longed to take class and learn in person.
After a year of eyeing an Afro-Cuban class at #ruthpaigedance
I finally made my way and guess who was there waiting for me!!??? #Oshun
!! Oshun has been quietly with me for a while and when my sister @blackkittyfromoutterspace
🐱 brought me an Oshun bebe (fan) from New Orleans, I knew it was time to embrace more #femininity #sensuality
and to place #love
back at the forefront of my life. .
It seems so small, but I was so happy to be in that class I cried.😭 As my instructor told stories of Yemaya and Oshun I knew I was in a divine place. No coincidence that years ago a six year old Brandice took ballet class in the exact same studio. I'm sharing my #gratitude
, my #love
and my #joy
. I never would've thought 25lbs, 2 kids, and many years later I would have a resurgence in my dance career, but here I am, #dancing #training
and preparing to perform with #shewolfdance
